Default Next mod: ported heads or a bigger blower?

While my forged 347 is being built-i was thinking of selling my stock 317 heads and getting a set of CNC ported 317 heads from Patriot that they have on sale for $1000. Or I could sell my D1SC and upgrade to a F1A supercharger. What would offer the most gains on a lil ole 347?

If you are dropping the compression with the new pistons, then you could get a larger blower to force more air into the equation. The f1a should be able to suit your needs for power.

While heads will definatly help, a blower will make air go into the cylinder where as the heads will let the air go in easier.

Jake the compression is going to stay the same-9.8-going to use a -2.2 Wiseco.

Without doing any testing it's only a guess, but I would say you would see bigger gains with the F1A. I am basing this somewhat on that turbo T/A we tuned that made 920 rwhp with a loose converter, on stock 6.0L heads. Bob

You will get more for your money with the bigger blower, I went from stock valves and mildly ported 217cc (checked myself) 98 heads to the dart 225s with 2.05 intake valve and didnt pick up much at all.

If you have meth, reasonable IATs and can afford some better gas for the track I would do the bigger blower. But remember the F1A is going to take a good drive setup, I dont think a 6 rib will do it. There is a huge difference between running a car up on a dyno and getting no slip and a car running through 1st gear at the dragstrip. If you slip accelerating quick in 1st gear your 60' goes away and thats 80% of your ET down the toilet.

If you are sure you are getting the most out of the D1 then the bigger blower would be my first choice - if you think your drive can handle it.

I haven't yet pushed the D1-fastest I've spun it is only 51000 rpm, 4.10 pulley and 7.5 crank. I did pick up a 8 rib ATI setup for next year so the drive should be okay. So there's still alot left in the D1-I was going to go to a 3.7 8rib and get it up to 56,000 rpm. Again I guess i'm getting ahead of myself. the only thing I don't like about these 317 heads is that there for a 4.00 bore and i have to use a 4.010 gasket. Kind of a mismatch. Slowhawk doesn't like this setup either-he would rather me do a -8cc piston and run a LS6 head. Kp my IAT temps at the end of the quarter with my single nozzle alky control meth is only 63 degrees. I'm running 16 degress of timing and see no knock-knock tables are completey stock.

These Dart heads are bigger then a 3.9" bore, I have to use the 6L gaskets with them and I have no issues. I used to have a heck of a lot more overhang on BBC stuff then this thats for sure.

My blower really seemed to love the 56K range and thats where I have been running it for the last two years. You have a ways to go with the D1..

As always some very sound advice from kp. Okay-keep it the way it is-run the D1 harder than just swap over to a F1A-simple enough!

I'd use the 3.4" pulley and pick up those heads.

What tracks are open up until December? I was talking to Rodney at RPM and hes' going to see if he can get a track rental when my auto conversion is done. Then were going to see if we can put this car into the 9's on the stock shortblock. Plus it will be cool to see how much of a difference the auto makes with everything else just left alone.
