I gotta buddy that has a 2002 SS with some checkered stripes he put on years ago. Now, they're old and cracked, he wants to replace them.

Anyone got ideas to remove them easily and break up the glue underneath. I think he said a shop wants 60ish dollars an hour to take them off for him.

What do we need to do it ourselves?

you can use a heat gun to loosen up the glue and peel off the decal....if theres any glue left on the car use GOOF OFF, i think thast what its called. Itll get the glue right off.

3m wax remover works but it takes a bit of time

do not use goof off. that **** is so strong and will F*ck your **** up, its like a paint thinner. goo gone is the **** u want it smells like oranges.

i concur with goo gone. or pay the cash for removal. it would be less hassle to pay....

Get a "Decal" eraser wheel from a auto body supply shop, one that you can chuck up in a hi speed grinder or a hi rpm drill. They work great, and will not damage the clear coat, if you are cautious. Very quick and easy.

Use Goo Gone. Works great for removing decal residue.

I see this all the time in this forum .. while goo gone does work, and there are instances where it might be the only way.. it is a very strong chemical, and is not the end all, be all answer to removing everything from a car's paint ..

there are several options that will work just as well, and much less chance of harming the finish.

as mentioned above, 3M wax remover .. a good cleaner wax and a little time works also .. heat gun and plastic razor blades to remove the vinyl, then cleaner wax (or wax remover, etc) and some time will take care of it almost all of the time, and is much better for the finish ..



goo gone may be quicker, but quicker isn't always better.
