Cracked heads? Small cracks between valve seats
I bought a set of heads from a member here a few weeks ago and decided to get a valve job done before I install them. Shop calls me yesterday and tells me that there were a coupe small cracks between some of the valve seats. He says they see this fairly often and its nothing too likely to be major but I asked them to do a pressure test anyways, no results yet.. Anyone else heard of this happening on newer model aluminum heads?
Thanks guys,

Well, I got a call back. Good news: They are fine. He said he got a good look at the port job and said it is one of the ebst hes seen in a while.. Looking forward to seeing what the motor will do with those heads now!

PS: I asked him,and he reccomended they strip the heads and tig weld cracks, though they tested ok and welding only if it WAS leaking.

happens alot. guy I know will machine out one valve seat, IE the exhaust, Install an oversize seat with a flange, then machine the intake one overlapping the exhaust where they meet. So you have a figure 8 deal-e-o where one sits in another, but the valves are the same distance apart. maybe you could look into that. if they're not leakign i wouldnt really worry about it.

Well such stress fractures will only expend under use, much more so if used with a power adder.
IMO, remove seats, weld, machine for new seats and reinstall. It is not a big issue and easily fixed, but I wouldn't run those on a high performance application as is.

If this is going on a stock power motor and you want to try something cheap. There are additives that claim so seal a block up, seal heads up, and even fix problems like blown head gaskets.
