Default Carbed 6.0 combo ??

I have a 01 LQ4 6.0 with 81,000 miles i just picked up...What all would you guys check, replace? I'm going with a edelbrock victor jr intake, 750 dp holley, msd controller, 1" 3/4 headers, 4000 stahl, 4.10's and either a MS3 or MS4? Which cam would you run of the two? I'm going with the cam kit texas speed has, springs, pushrods, etc...New timing chain I know for sure, but what else? Oil pump? Would you have the heads milled for increased compression? How much should I go? I want 10.5:1 compression. I have a nx express plate kit for this motor as well...Motor is going in a 78 malibu. Any suggestions welcome, thank you....

as far as i know, you can not run a victor jr on that block...your only carbed manifold choices is the GMPP kit, and the Edel. Performer kit.

Why would you not be able to run it on that block?

What RPM do you plan on spinning the motor to? The rod bolts are one of the weak links and when I saw that you were planning on a 4k convertor, and nitrous I figured you might want to look into it. I don`t know what RPM the stockers are good to offhand, but I know that it has been mentioned in the internal section.

You shouldn`t have too much to worry about though, I didn`t change anything on my 5.3L when I put it in and it had 120k on it. It now has 133K and probably 60 passes at the strip, still has good oil pressure.

Did you use a truck pan by chance? I have been looking, I know someone had pics of one installed using the truck pan, and was curious about clearance....

Me? No, I used the f-body pan because it is my daily driver. The f-body pan is about 1/2" above the bottom of the crossmember and the truck pan is about 2-3" deeper so it would have hung 1.5-2.5" below the bottom of anything else on the car I didn`t want to risk it.

Wonder how hard it would be to have the truck pan shortened....

Thanks

the victor jr. is great if you need the extra rpm's or want to spray it over a 150 shot but honestly the performer rpm is a great choice and good to 6500. It's easy to keep one together at that rpm and it will limit you to how much spray you can throw at it too. It's like buying insurance for the motor(if there IS such a thing) Another analogy would be building a 7500rpm bottom end and camming it for 6500. Simple, you run outta everything else bEFORE you run outta motor parts!!

if you're only going to turn it 6k I'd definately go with the performer rpm and at most the ms3(it will pull beyond 6,000 but makes great power through there) You might even go smaller with a shorter lobe separation if you just want the "sound". A slight change in valve event timing can make a huge difference in how it "feels/sounds" Shoot, 6,000 rpm is an easy go for the 6.0. You should never hurt any parts!!

Well I didnt know how far I could push it and last, I've been reading more and more and see that 64-6600 is about the norm. Bottom line I want the car to be fast as possible, and sound nasty as well.........

I got victor jr on a 04 20,000 mile 6.0 with an asa cam,i really got the vic jr cause it looks way cooler than the performer,i also have a 750 dp and 1 3/4 headers, with a 3500 stall ,stock heads, stock bottom end.my car lacks no umph, plenty of torque with the victor jr,and pulls hard to 6000.it also has a 150 shot all in a nasty 84 regal with a shortend truck pan that was NOT worth the work.good luck on your project.

How bad is the stock truck pan, or did you try it? Are you saying it was a crappy job on it, or would you spend 3-500 on an aftermarket/modded f body pan?

LS2 timing chain, ported LS6 oil pump, katech rod bolts.

put a big cam in it and spin it to 7500 all day long no problems.

if you put an LS1 intake on it you will need the LS1 water pump. you will need the f body pan though.

Justin, which ASA cam did you go with, the GMPP? I looked at the specs and didn't think it would be too radical(or radical enough) What springs? If I can make this 5.3 go away the 6.0 will be going in the Camaro quick. The car is just waiting for it's transplant. TJ is down right now too so I don't feel too bad. Sure glad to see the regal is doing good.......hey, if you know anyone with a good 6.0 I'll swap this whole 5.3/4l60 combo for it...... Batman

the truck pan works ,it just holds way less oil after cutting it off,the f-body pan is the better choice,if you are looking for a cheap way out- the truck pan,a good sawzall,a good tig, your done.the gmpp asa cam sounds bad *** and is a real daily driver, drive anywhere with no worries cam,if you are looking for a all out race cam or maximum performance cam look elsewhere.when i go aftermarket heads, valve train, pistons, rods, crank, fogger, then,i will go with a big bumpstick
