ls6 vs stock ls1?

From my understanding the ls6 has better flowing heads, slightly larger cam, better flowing intkae manifold and of course a better tune to match the components. Vets chime in if i'm wrong.

thats what i think he means. yes,not much on a bolt on car.
im replacing my ls6 with a FAST soon.

I read an article in Hot Rod about a year ago that stated the ls6 intake is a 14 hp upgrade from the ls1. I think that this is reasonable on a stock or mildly modified motor. I had one on my bolt on car and feel that 14hp is about right.

The stock LS6 was basically a completely diff. block than the ls1, it was a shorter(heighth) and the heads were completely redesigned with smaller, redesigned combustion chambers and diffrent valve angles which ultimately made more compression which equals more horsepower(explosion is much more effecient). The intake was redesigned with shorter runners and manifold floor.

The cam isn't much bigger. Intake will make a diff but you can get even better aftermarket for similar price ranges. The heads are what you need to be after.
Duration@.050 198.86 intake 209.25 exhaust
Lift .498 intake .497 exhausts
LSA 119.45
Stock 01-02 trans am cam
Duration@.050 196.37 intake 208.72 exhaust
Lift .464 intake .479 exhausts
LSA 115.92
02+ LS6 cam 204/218 .551/.547 117.5
The LS6 cam is alot bigger then you think, take a look at the lift difference!
Anyways back to the topic. LS6 intake will get you 10-15RWHP.
Peace,
Craig.

I have the LS6 cam installed in my motor. Actually, the only internal mod I have besides the springs. It makes a small difference but it isn't the same as the magic powersticks you can buy from the aftermarket. I guess I just view it as a small cam. I wasn't very excited about it compared to some of the other cammed cars I drove.

The cam is great if you just wanted a little bit more pep and a good daily driver. If you wanted all out power and then yes, you picked the wrong cam. But if you or I wanted to benefit from a huge cam we would need full exhaust. Right now I have my SS for a toy and a nice and quiet/smooth but peppy T/A to get me around daily.

If you are talking about the LS6 intake getting 10-15rwhp you can feel that for sure.
If you are talking about a ZO6 cam, then we are talking about 30rwhp with a tune. If my T/A did not have the ZO6 cam and it was just lid, open Borla, and tune, I'd be lucky to hit 340rwhp. On my dyno run if I had the Borla wide open I'd bet it would be around 370rwhp (370-340 = 30rwhp).
Peace,
Craig.
