Default 6.0 Heads+LS6 cam+STS

Hey guys,

Tried doing a search but did not come up with anything...Im looking into changing my set up. I was curious if anyone has run a combo similiar to this and what they got out of it? I was looking at the 6.0 litre truck heads and doing an 02+ LS6 cam. I know that with the truck heads it will lower my compression but to how much? How much boost will I be able to run safley? I have a STS kit with T-67. Whats needed for this? Will the LQ9 heads bolt up with out any modifications? Will I need to port the heads? Will I need longer/shorter or stock length pushrods with the LS6 cam?

Thanks

I've got a friend running 10.20 with that setup + a t76 p-trim. 3600lb car, stock motor, 15psi.

LS6 cam is kinda weak... I would look for a used boost cam.

But with that setup (except I had a LPE GT-7 cam).. FMIC and a 67 I did 607 to the wheels (Pushing the stock block to the edge). Yea the 6.0 heads will bolt right up... you need to get better springs for it... some 918's or PP Golds.

I already have 918's with hardened pushrods in my current setup. Will the pushrods be the same length?

Pushing the stock block to the edge <~~~ Define that please. Stock bottom end or Stock internals? Because I'm looking into rebuilding the stock bottom end w/ all forged internals and for the price I'm going to pay to get it all done I don't want to risk cracking the block.

99ws6, I'd be a little weary of going to crazy w/ the setup. I thought I was fine and then one day I did a compression test and I found out I lost #7, tread lightly. Good luck w/ your setup.

Ok... In my instance.. on the 607 pull it was spraying oil out the back from blowby. I think for my stock block I was at the edge of what it could handle boost wise (~12lbs on the 67)... All stock bottom end (weak pistons and rings)... forged I would not have had that problem and believe I could have seen 700RWHP with better fuel and ~18psi on the 67.... I dont know if the 67 could have flowed that much air... but I would have tried. I would reccomend to someone else going down the same path I was to go with a 70 or 72 turbo.

Now I am way off into left field with a 408 and PT88...

Oh and FYI and to support what REO said.... I would not reccomend more then 9lbs of boost ever with FMIC, 6.0L heads, and your stock block. You should see 540RWHP safely with that....

Do you mean with stock internals?

I just bought 317 heads and an 02 zO6 cam. I have a procharger on 8lbs now making 470rwhp. I'm going to put this stuff on with meth and crank the boost to 10lbs. I'm looking for 550-575rwhp on the stock bottom. We will see how she does.

LQ4's or LQ9's? Is there a difference besides one is iron and one aluminum?

Yes... As in you have never touched anything in your shortblock from factory.

They are both iron block 6.0L engines. The main difference is in compression ratios with the LQ4 being more boost friendly at 9.5:1.

Damn

15 psi on stock bottom end. How long has been running this setup?

About a year, I ran my stock motor @ 15psi for a long time too. It's all in the tuning and baby sitting of the engine. Rod bolt stretch and valve float got me after about 10k miles of boosting.
