Default Anyone Seen a Wood Grain Steering Wheel?

Has anyone seen a wood grained steering wheel for the F-body? No company has ever made one for this car that I know of, so it would have to be a one off wheel.
If you've seen one or know a place to have one converted, can you please let me know?

Thank you.

PS. I also want to get the radio buttons re-labeled. If you know how it's done or someone that does that kind of work, please let me know. If you even know the name of the process that would help. Right now I'm clueless.

Jason, I've lost the link to the company, so I can't help a lot. But I know that there is a company in Texas that specializes in rebuilding steering wheels. They take your stock steering wheel and will either recover it in leather (and can increase the thickness of the wheel) or will redo it in wood.

I'd almost swear that they were mentioned on this site within the last year, but can't say that for sure. I've done several searches on the net trying to find them again, but so far have failed.

Sorry to not be of more help, but at least there is a company that can do it, if either of us can find them on the net.

Did they do the leather/wood combo for late model wheels?

I was considering swapping to a 03-06 GM truck wheel as I already have an airbag for it. Those wheels are nice and actually have 12 buttons, but I'm not sure it would fit. I would have a chevy emblem staring at me the whole time which isn't great, though.

I can get the truck wheel for like 35 bucks on ebay and try it out, but I'm hesitant.

Oh snap.

Check it out. TA wheel and brake handle, custom leather.

I could probably get the wheel done with wood and new leather or maybe gray suede. I could have them dip by shifter ball to give the same wood look and then have the hand brake done to match as well. That would be sweet!

Hmmmm, maybe a matching wood hand brake? That's something to thing about.

Here is a photoshop.

What do you think? Are the 2 extra side pieces too much?

Here it is without them:

I'm not sure if that is even possible.

I think I would want some leather around the top two spokes just for good grip. I drift the car sometimes and ocassionally race it so I need good grip. This aint no cruiser.

Gotcha. In that case I would deff. go with the second wheel you posted, without the 2 extra side pieces. It looks real clean. If you end up doing the swap, please post some pics when you're done.

I just got some prices. The 2 piece would run about $450. To make the grip a bit fatter (which I like) bumps it to $525.
The 4 piece wheel would run $626.

Yea, that's a bit out of my price range. I was thinking maybe $350 at the most. Plus I prefer the 4 piece with the fatter grip, so $625 is what it would run from American Stitches Co.

It doesn't seem worth it.

Sorry, I was in a vendor meeting until now. The website looks different than I remember, but that looks to be the place. It is expensive, but I'm still seriously considering it. Thanks for tracking them down.

It looks like I'm going to modify a different steering wheel to fit my car.

I can get this Chevy truck wheel (below) for under $250.

It will be no problem modifying the mount to fit,
I can rewire the buttons to a RF remote,
the buttons can be made to light up red,
I already have an airbag that fits,
the airbag plugs match,
and the diameter is about the same.

The only minor difference is that the wheel is an inch deeper, but that's no problem as I always felt the wheel needed to be a little closer to me anyway.

What's nice about this wheel is that the grips are already a bit thicker plus it has 12 buttons to play with. I never liked the f-bodies big ole airbag sticking up in my face.

One way or another I will fit a woodgrain wheel in this car.
