Hey guys, i just got done putting new wires, pluigs, opti, themostat, and WP gaskets on my 97 z28 see sig for car details. I have a slight question I had a GM person working with me since i know the guy and he got me a GM HIGH PERFORMANCE opti is this good or comparable to MSD opti's?

I have never had to change mine yet but the MSD are about the best you can get almost leak and water proof. I am planning on getting an MSD for my build. actually.

wow 531 for a stocker the MSD is 499 from summit maybe they mean compar to in price lol. But in all seriousness. The MSd is all billet has a fourth bolt to stop water from seeping in and has an indexed drive so the optical encoder wont slip.
But unless you payed that 600 or 531 I wouldn't worry it will still do its job. The GM performance parts opti sells for 299 in summit.

that is a stock opti and the accel opti's are basically a stock opti. the only good opti's out there is the dynatech opti and the msd opti. period.

i feel sorry for you for not knowing, next time please ask before you go spend 600 at the dealer for a stock part.

There is nothing wrong with the factory piece, just that you spent too much for it.

I'm loving my MSD opti, still no issues.

I bought mine from summit. It was a new opti. At the time I ordered mine thats all you could get the MSD cap and rotor was out but they have not got any in at the time. The dealer wants a arm and a leg for new opti. I bought mine for $400 shipped. Next time Im going to get a MSD unit.

Use these guys. I think I paid somewhere around $245 shipped (from Jason Cromer) for my stock replacement opti.

Im with everybody else. Give the MSD opti a try. If it gives you an advantage over the stock one, TAKE IT!

When I bought my last one, MSD's opti was not released yet. I got a brand new stock one for a steal from somebody that ordered the wrong one. I dont have near the problems that everybody has with opti's however. (The only reason I replaced mine was because of the fact that I could not find the problem.) (Turned out to be an intermittent coil problem believe it or not)
