Default Do you think i need a new a/c drier?

I broke my a/c tube a couple weeks ago after a cam swap. I developed a hairline crack and i left it evacuate over night. I took the tube off to check the damage and rtved it the next day. It sat 2 weeks while iwas at college and now i have a new pipe on and am vacuuming the moisture out. DO you think that my drier will be toast or is there a possibility that it will work fine?

My drier tube o-ring broke and leaked out all of my refrigerant a while back. I replaced the tube and it works just like it did before it broke.

Technically by the book replace it but. If thats the case every bodyshop on earth would be in trouble. I've done it many times through our shop just pull a good deep vaccum on it and you'll be ok.

Should be replaced.

Inside the A/C drier is a bag of desicant. If the unit is left open for more than 5 minutes, it is typically no good. There are no exceptions...

Have a shop do a full A/C service on the vehicle. They need to:
reclaim whatever is in there
replace the A/C drier
Re-charge the system with R-134a
They will also check for a vacuum leak with the machine...

Im the adventurous type. Im gonna vacuum it for a while and attempt to recharge it myself. We shall see if it works out or not. If not, then come summer, i will evacuate it, change the drier and try it again.

Might as well buy a new accumulator drier unless you'd like to buy refrigerant twice. Also what line is the crack on. If it's on the high pressure side (over 125 psi) I don't think your silicone is gonna hold the leak.

Crack was on high pressure side. The silicon was to keep moisture out. It worked once the freon was evacuated. I vacuumed and recharged the a/c today. It works better than ever. Once the compressor kicks on, it BLOWS!

We shall see how it holds till the summer.

I have left system open for days/weeks while working on putting a wreck job back together (I am a tech). They recommend to replace if open for more than 24 hrs. You are suppoed the replace the dryer, but as stated it is not manditory. Like you stated pull a real good vacumm on it for about 1 hr and charge it. You should be ok. The vacuum will removed 90 percent of the moisture. i would not worry about it.
