Default Are Predator tuners any good?

A local speed shop says Predators are the best tuners for my 98Z. They want $410 for the unit and say I need a custom program for another $210 to set it up for the headers I'm going to install. They claim they have to set the base program and delete the rear o2 codes. Can I buy the tuner and do that myself.

Sorry but let that shop know that Diablosport does not support 98 LS1's.

I would say look into some tuning software for yourself, for less money hptuners will do tons more then predator setup the dealer is trying to sell you...code deletions such as needed with your headers is a snap.

Predators would be a lot more fun if they actually let you buy the CMR software that the speed shop has. Until that software is made available (at a competitive price) to the public, the Predator is like playing in little league. Step up to the majors with a tuning suite like EFI Live and you'll be glad you did.

[creative jingle]"EFI Live...scan, log, tune!"[/creative jingle]

[fast talker]"Created by Blackmore & Myers. The makers of EFI Live and it's affiliates are not responsible for changes you make to the PCM of any vehicle. Side effects may include obsession, increased acceleration, and frequent adrenaline kicks. Consult an expert for advanced instruction. I can talk really, really fast. You can't read this as fast as I'm talking. Ha haaaa. Really, really fast."[/fast talker]

*Edit* - Sorry to sound like a prescription drug commercial...I'm a little bored at work today.

I started out my tuning endeavors with a Predator, and for a short while, it was fun. I outgrew it in a hurry though, and stepped up to HPTuners. Haven't looked back since. If you really like tinkering with things, HPT/EFI is the only way to go.

Keep an eye out in the near future for a VERY competitively priced single user version of CMR.....

That rumor is well over 2~3 years old and running.

Not sure there is much market share left at this point...they'd have to have a really superb product to even compete with what's currently available (and has been available for quite some time). I think CMR missed the train with this one...

If you do get a tuning software, you can download a Predator bin file from the repository at the top of this section and just do a file comparison in HPT. That way you can see what very little changes a tune like that really does.
