is this the reason the MLS doesn't work with this type of head ?
and would it help when i weld it and skim the head ?

If youre really bent on doing it that way, you can weld and mill it, however from what I understand, filling aluminum in requires heating quite a bit with a rosebud and some careful welding to keep from developing voids.

I think its easier just to use gaskets with the notch.

Yeah, that notch is why you can't use the GM MLS gaskets. Gotta use the composite ones.

yeah i know it would be easier to use the composite, but i plan on using some serious boost, so i would like to use the (cheap) GM MLS gaskets

I don't think you can use the words "cheap" and "boost" in the same sentence (well, maybe this one) . Those heads don't look too special from the pictures, I'd suggest selling them and trying to get a set of 241/243 castings if you're dead set on getting the GM gaskets.

You could also get the $30/each AZ composite gaskets that are .042" compressed thickness. Those will work with your notche head or with the latter castings.

I've never heard of AZ composite gaskets, do you have a link for them?

well cheap is relative, for my cosworth 4 cyl. turbo engine the cheapest MLS with acceptable quality is $503 each,

and selling these heads: allmost nobody here has a Ls engine series car, let alone interest in buying a used set.
And for me getting a 241/243 casting provides the same problem....

I have these heads and when possible will use them.

i don't like composite gaskets, they tend to blow/ deteriorate quite fast when abused
