TR224 Killed my MPG
Is this normal? I used to go about 200 miles on a tank in the city, but after the cam swap, I'm finding that I can only go about 120 miles on one tank. And this is AFTER the tune (put down 388rwhp). Does this mean that my tuner sucks?

all the performance stuff i've ever done to my car always got me better MPG it seemed, intil i threw in my 60# injectors, those killed my MPG, but hell when i used to have one of my old setups with my old TR224 cam, i always got pretty good gas mileage....could be a tuning issue, it could just be you putting down the loud pedal every chance you get when i used to DD my car i would get good mileage, now that it's just my nice day cruiser, i get horrible MPG cause i have my foot in it whenever i take it out...my self control went out the window.

i think you're right, however also think it has a lot to do with the weight of the persons foot. ya get a cam, you drive harder so you enjoy it

I DO have quite the lead foot, especially after the cam. My tuner did say that my edelbrock shorties weren't "tuned length" so they are making the computer vary in AFR at lower RPMs.

Something is wrong with your set-up/tune. Eliminate any mechanical issues you may have first; fueling leaks etc.
Unless you're driving EVERYWHERE at WOT . . . something is wrong.
I get ~165 miles on a tank ALL CITY driving on my set-up; which is rather extreme compared to yours.
I drive at no less than 3K RPM'S and a VERY heavy foot in the city (I don't need to drive that high, I just choose to ).
That "untuned length" is a suspect statement . . . if everything is mechanically sound, find another tuner IMO.
Good luck.

When the fun factor goes up the fuel economy goes down. I get anywhere from 18 to 22mpg with some city and highway and with 4.10's driving conservatively. Try keeping your shifts below 2.5k and 3k rpms. When I really have fun my fuel economy is in the 14 to 16mpg!

With my TR224 (112lsa), heads, long tubes, 3.73s, I still get 210-230 miles per tank of gas and it takes roughly 15 gallons to refill, so I'm getting between 14 and 16 mpg and that's all backroads, stop and go. Granted, it's a 'fun driver' only so when I do drive it I'm gassing it pretty hard.
On your tune, did he do just a WOT dyno tune, because if so, your mid throttle, low rpm tune may be off pretty bad and your running extremely rich. Doing a 'drivability' tune is just as important as a WOT dyno tune.
