My rack and pinion has been leaking for a couple years now, and my power steering pump just went, so everything needs to be replaced. I've heard of kits to remove the pump and replace the rack and pinion with a different ratio manual steering rack and pinion, that is close to as easy to turn as the factory power setup. Does anybody know who makes these and where I could find them? Thanks for your help.

There are a couple of pretty long threads about this in the Drag Race section. Like JUICED96Z said, apparently there is a problem running the MadMan rack with stock width wheels. From what I could gather, it will still work, but you will lose a little turning radius due to the wheel hitting the tie rod ends when turned near full lock.

There are cheaper manual racks available, but I am sure they would be harder to install that the one from MadMan. For someone without fabrication skills, the cheaper version could become more expensive real fast.

Too bad you are in Michigan. I'm installing a Madman manual kit in my '94 and have the entire power steering system (rack, lines, pump, reservoir, etc) sitting here on the floor. Worked perfectly. I'd let it go for a reasonable price, but the shipping would be rough.

BTW, the Madman kit, and probably all the others, are not intended for a true daily driver.

Thanks for all the good info, I knew the kits were out there, just didnt know who made them. Any body run any of these setups, had any problems with going to this setup? Thanks again.

I just ordered the BMR set up and will have pictures posted hopefully in the next couple of weeks. If you don't have the K member for a Pinto rack, you have to weld on some additional tabs. Those are also available from BMR. If you are looking to do a K member, now would be the time to do it and order it accordingly.
