The rim is 8.5 inches wide so 235, 245, or 255.

Stock Z28 wheels are 16" X 8". I would not go any wider than 255.

Yeah... 255 is pushing it already, I got very little traction out of some Falken Tires I used to have on my stock wheels, even if I aired them down some, the car would ride basically on just the center 1/3 of the tire coz the tire was bunched up on the wheel.

If you want wide tires, you gotta invest in bigger wheels, it's as simple as that. I tried your route before, but finally settled on some ZR1 wheels with 11" out back running 315's.

255 is fine on an 8" wheel.

Try to find one that is wider that is not a truck tire or a race tire.

It's pointless to go wider than 255. What he was saying is "good luck finding them if they are not truck tires" meaning.... you will only find truck tires bigger than 255 in 16".

The stock wheels can't take any more than 255, you want bigger tires, you need bigger wheels!

i got 255's to fit on my 16's fine on my old 97 z28 and that is the biggest without the tire starting to bulge over the rim. i had bfg's and was fine, good tire. or i would just bump up to 17's for cheap and get some 285's out back.
