Head/cam suggestion for a 370 D1SC build
Well im getting down to the point of looking for a head and cam combo and find myself thinking in circles. Its a 370 iron shortblock from speed inc. Stock crank, eagle rods with L19s, diamond -14.9cc pistons, main studs, i have head studs for it too. I have a th400 for it and havnt decided on a converter yet but 4000 is about where id want to be. it will be running a 9" unknown gear still. This will mainly be a drag race car and used occasionally on the streets. My focus here is lowest ET possible. Im also considering a 50-125 shot of spray on top of the D1SC at full speed. I will be running meth with 93octane when not on the gun, and will step up to whatever octane is deemed safe on spray. (i can get 100/104/110 at the pump only a few miles away) Seems i have tons of decisions and my heads spinning. Id like to stay with a cheaper head for now and step up down the line as long as it wont hurt me too much. The 6.0 heads from patriot seemed like they may be a good choice. With a lingenfelter GT2/3 cam perhaps? Id like to be in the 700-750 rwhp range on boost. Hoping to get the car to around 3400lbs race weight. I was hoping to get between 9 and 9.5:1 compression.
Any advice is much appreciated.

I was thinking about the L92s im just wondering if they will hold tghe pressure of 14/15 lbs of boost and a dose of nitrous.
Also that huge intake port makes me wonder about velocity. Local guy went faster on a 190CC AFR head then with a 227 on a procharged car, but thats on a first gen small block, not sure if a LS motor would react different for soem reason. Im guessing not. I just dont want to get caught up in the bigger is always better camp.

What is your budget for heads?
Let me know if you'd ever be interested in my TCT torque converter. Worked great on blower, might be too loose for me now on turbo. Cost me $1000, I'd sell it for $500.

The goal is indeed lowest ETs. Id prefer a lumpy cam honestly, but don't wanna go too far with the cam if the gains aren't worth it. If i can go from a moderate cam to a huge cam and only get 5-10rwhp i don't want it, but if ill see like 25+ ill go for it. Know what i mean?
I'm really thinking the LQ9s are the way I'm gonna go, I'm just wondering about the compression ratio with those. Then theres the whole what cam issue. Decisions decisions... I just don't wanna go back and see i should have gotten a different part and now its holding me back. I wanna research every part of the build and do the best job i can the first time.

i just think you could go to atleast a 220/228 cam and still have great drivabilty... call up some sponsors and get 3-4 choices, 1 from each sponsor and see which one you like best...
i just know that if you like the "cammed" sound you might be dissapointed in the GT2-3... i think the duration is in the "teens" isnt it?

call up Dezracing.com they do alot of procharged race cars... they particularly like the 9.5 CR and i havent heard much of what they use for a cam....
in my 408 i have a 224/236 and right now it idles at 900rpm (havent tried lowering it yet but i will) and at that on my larger motor it doesnt really have a lumpy sound... it has about 20'' of vacuum... im gonna try and get it down to around 750-800 rpm at idle though...... just a thought...

I like the cam but im not gonna do it just to get the sound. Just saying im not afraid of a lumpy cam or not having a perfect idle and whatnot. Again, goal is minimum ET, with a slight lean towards drivablility.
I keep hearing 9.5 compression to so thats what im gonna aim for.

GT3 will sound almost stock.
Cam's to me don't sound all that lopey until we start having at least 224 duration on the intake side. They they start having that lope that turns your head.
I can send you a link to my cam if you want, 234/234//114.
But I'd do a 224/230//114, if you want to it sound mean. That or bigger.

again if you looking for a drivable cam that will perform im afraid your gonna have to be atleast in the 22x range on duration.... your drivability will be determined by the tuner...

bob at epp has had several 346 procharged motors with over 700 hp with the lingenfelter gt 2-3, im in the same boat right now looking for the RIGHT cam, but my car is going to be mainly street driven. im thinking about the same compression for my motor, (who has recommended 9.5?) also with meth injection.

I dont want to pick a cam to get a lopey sound. I want whatever will get me down the track in the shortest time, lopey or not. Just saying im not afraid of a lope if ill go quicker. That GT2/3 keeps coming up. Just wondering if a lil more cam would help me or just make me sound meaner. I want performace gains not my ego stroked by the sound it makes.

If you wanted the best cam for the track you'd run a 242/250/112 or something like that. The race guys don't care about peak hp numbers they want a straight across power curve.... like a straight line.
