The 98' 806's are the worst castings for LS1, naturally...because they were the first production head.

i wouldnt really say the 99+ heads are faster in stock form usually. ive seen a few guys around my area with 98's and they run very strong. and ive also seen 99+'s that have run like crap. i guess it just depends on how good they were built from the factory.

other than the valve covers that don't interchange, the ports are supposed to be the same.
as a owner of a 98 car with newer style v/c's. don't waste your time with stocker ls1 heads, ported by god or whoever. get something that's worth the effort. afr's tfs's ported ls6's, ect.

Never heard of an 806 head. My car was a very early 98 and I had 853's, 98-00 had the same heads less the center bolts on the 98's. Not worth porting, 01-02 more so.

853's are marginally better (did some research on the 806 head), a 241 is alot better though, LS6 even more so, then an L92.

Yea, I'm going to go check my old heads when I get a chance, I could have sworn they were 853's, but they very well may not be. My car was made in Nov. 97 so it 'shouldn't' have 853's. Honestly that'd make me happy if it had 806's because it made crap power cam only.

The only difference in the LS1 heads are the manfacturing process, and the years went by the port surface got better and better. Once ported, the heads are equal.

I thought that it was weird that you have a 98' and had never heard of those head castings before.

My 98 has the 806 heads also..

But I am getting the urge to swap them out for some that breathe a little better.

Uh, stupid question, but what are the casting number(S) For LS6 Heads? Those aren't 241's or 243's are they? If not, what are they?
