Yep, going from stock 806 casting heads ('98) to stock 853 ('99-'00) or 241 (late '00+) castings is not worth it at all unless the new heads are ported and yours are stock.

plus, if you bought those heads, you'd have to switch to centerbolt valve covers and diff coil pack mounting or relocation!! Get the LS6 intake!

no, if your gonna go through the trouble of doing a head swap, you might as well get better gains. its like swapping ina zo6 cam, you'llg ain something, but was it worth all the work?

I wonder if the gains going from 806 heads to 241 heads without any other changes would even show on the dyno? Seems like any HP difference would likely be within the dyno's margin of error......

The only reason to change is if you find a set of ported later model heads with better springs. It will cost you a fair number of dollars for the conversion parts....been there done that.

Really? Wow, did anyone ever test this? I’m just curious, personally I figured no more than a 3-5hp gain would be expected.

Thats what I did though, ported and polished 241's with 1.6's and 2.02's. As a comparable difference I made 342/348 RWHP/RWTQ on the stock heads and a stock tranny, with the heads, exact same cam and a stalled A4 I made 400/380 RWHP/RWTQ. But stock castings for stock castings? Not worth it IMHO.

Yup, its been discussed. 10 RWHP is about right, the 98's cam makes better use of 241's over 806's, thats where the benefit comes in!

Interesting. My late '00 car had the 241s with obviously the '98-'00 cam when stock. Maybe that's why the car was a hair quicker stock than other '00 cars I ran with at the time....

Unported stock casting swaps are useless no matter WHAT heads they are. 241s, 243s, none of them are worth the time to swap. You simply will NOT gain enough power to make the change worth it. A whole weekend worth of work plus whatever the heads, gaskets, etc costs, only to gain maybe .10 on the strip? Bad idea.
