Default Lets talk heads

I have 853s in my 99. I will be installing a TSP T2 cam pkg, ls2 chain, ls6 oil pump, pulley, ls6 intake, and pacesetter LTs. Any issues or drawbacks from stock 853s with this setup? I'm guessing the 853s are better than the 806s but not as good as the 241s or 243s obviously. Is this correct? I can get a set of 243s with 6k on them for around $400. Is this a worth while expenditure?

Thanks

I guess it depends on whether you believe an extra 10-20 hp (based upon the bigger runner volume and flow, and the higher CR of the 243 heads) is worth the extra $400 and time to swap the heads.

For 20 hp, then it just might be a decent deal. I guess your implying that 853s would be ok with running my setup.

You can get new 243s for that price. Talk to gunnar @patriot performance. Theyre on sale right now. Or maybe yu can use that as a bargaining chip to get the othe rguy to come down a bit.

get a bigger cam and spend 1k on LS6 heads... save money for when you want to upgrade in another 6 months.

I don't want a bigger cam. I was thinking about TSP PRC ls6 ported polished and competition valve job for a $1000 tho. However, the seller will probably deal on the used ls6 heads knowing I can get them new from Patriot for about the same price.

I would get the LS6 heads if you can get him to come down on price. I would also spend $50 at a machine shop to get them milled for higher compression (well worth it).
