Default Cam Swap Soon...Final Decision

Well I'm going to go ahead and swap out the cam in my car and I want something that lopes pretty hard and has great power. Let me first start out by giving the info on my car. It is a 1999 Camaro SS six-speed with a lid and K&N, long tubes and true duals, and 4.11 rear. The car only has ~19K on the odometer and is driven daily. My goals for the car is to make 400 (+) rwhp and just about that in torque as well, but I don't want to exceed the .600" lift. I kind of want the G5X3, but like I said earlier...I don't want to break the .600" lift mark because I don't want to have get the double springs. Now the cam I have been looking into is MTI's X1 cam (230/227 .591"/.571" 112 LSA). I have seen a few people get very respectable numbers out of this cam and was hoping the same for myself. And not to mention it sounds so damn good. So does this sound like a good cam for me? Or do you camshaft guru's have something better in mind that stays within my requirements?

Thanks in advance!
-Tyler

P.S. Sorry if I didn't really word everything right; it's been a looooong night

For what it's worth (not much)_ I love my MTI cam. Their stuff is a little pricey but worth it. My C1 cam is small but has a real nice lope to it. I get many compliments.

A 99 daily driven SS with 19k on it? Dude, that's gotta be unheard of. I've got the TSP Torquer2 cam pkg. 232/234 .595/.598 112 lsa. I went with double PRC springs. It made sense to me. I think you may want a cam in the 228 - 232 range if you don't want double springs. However, to be at peace with yourself just get the x3 with heads and double springs.

The MTI's X1 cam (230/227 .591"/.571" 112 LSA) only has 4.5 degrees of overlap so it will have a little lope but it won't raise all the eyebrows at the local cruise night if that is what you are thinking. Now the TSP Torquer2 heard above has 9 degs of overlap and the lope is very noticable.

The G5X3 on a 112 will really get people's attention with an open exhaust and is a great cam, just maybe not quite as tame for a daily driver as you may want to. But the tune can make or break the daily drivability of many cams.

Well I ultimately want the G5X3 cam. I guess it might be worth it to go ahead and throw down for the double spring package to get what I want. The only thing that was steering me away from that was the extra valvetrain beating and piston to valve clearance. I've done quite a bit of research on the X3 cam and some have had to flycut and some have not. Lou states that it will NOT require flycutting, so that is some good reassurance. Also, I may get a set of heads later on and really want to go with AFR's...I'm just not sure if I should go with the 205's or 225's. So what do y'all think about the PTV clearance and heads.

Oh yeah...What length pushrods would be needed for that cam?

Thanks again for everyone's help!

Guys call LGM... it's a slightly longer pushrod as the base circle of the cam is smaller from what I understand.

228/232 .600/.600 on a 112+3 is an awesome piece.

If you want 400RWHP and 400RWTQ on stock heads and dont want to rev to the moon (ie not past 6300-6400rpm) look at the 224/224 110 +4 XE grind. Several members have made over 400/400 and with peaks around 5800-6000rpm. Perfect for the street and a stock bottom end car.

If you want to extend the power past peak a little more you could up the exhaust duration slightly to ~228

These are XE lobes with under .600 lift. Look at the low/midrange torque!

Here is a graph of one:

Even mine with only 3 degrees of overlap is very noticable:
