Default bumping the revlimiter?

what is the consensus? i have heard that bumping up the stock limiter can make the tranny go prematurely b/c its not designed for the additional rpms...any input??

bumping the rev limiter & tranny life have absolutly nothing to do with each other...you could bump your rev limiter to 8000 rpms...it doesnt mean thats where your tranny is going to shift

well thats why noobs like me ask questions...what i was specifically referring to (which im not sure is even the rev limter lol) is the WOT shift RPM vs. Shift...what does this affect if it is not the rev limiter?

THAT affects your WOT shift point, but DOES NOT affect your rev limiter.

ok so now that i know how to move the revlimter (the real one) and the WOT shift points after i bump my revlimiter to like 6300, fuel resume to 6250 and the same with the bad Vss, along with changing the WOT shift RPM vs. Shift to 6200,6200,6100 respectively...would this put unnecessary wear on my transmission or is that a myth?

higher rpms, racing....

just driving the damn thing puts unnecessary wear on the trans.

running at a higher rpm/shifting higher isn't going to damage your trans. but just like everything else... it'll wear out "prematurely."

just like how agressive valves springs wear out a lot quicker than factory
agressive clutches
tires (drag radials especially)

just the price we pay for having fun with our cars.

What if you do a cam swap and the rpm shift point needs to be moved up say to 6600 rpm where can this be found at?

in HPT , under
Transmission
Auto Shift Speed

I generally lower my Full Throttle Shift Speed tables, and then set the Full Throttle Shift RPM about 150rpm below where I want it to shift

in order to shift, the PCM must see that your at WOT , that the speed is at or above the value in the shift speed tables, and the RPM is at or above the RPM in the full throttle shift RPM tables

so if you set the Speed low, you can set the trans to just shift by RPM (the 150rpm delay is due to the fact a shift isn't instant)

Just make sure your rev limiter in gear is high enough

(this applies for auto only of course.. manual you just set the rev limiter)
