Heres what I been doing this week. Dont look like much, but with putting the body on, and mocking everything up. Thinking what would work best. This is the best I can come up with. What you think??

They look good. What are you using to weld them together? MIG? TIG?

Thanks guys! I will be TIG welding the headers. Right now they are just tacked in place.

The mounting plates are from Street & Performance. The Bellhousing is from McLeod. They make a kit to mount the Viper M6 to a LS1 without any modifcations to the trans. The oil pan is a custom made pan from Canton. Holds 6.5 qts. in hte pan, and has a remote filter.

The valve covers are from Speed Inc.

Make sure you build them with a plug and socket in the hole for each cylinder to simulate having to change plugs. Trust me!!

Yes, the plugs and wires are on. The # 3 & 4 plug will be a b!tch to get at, but I can get a socket on it. I tried my best to design the headers with everything in mind. Not too easy of a task. But after you figure it out, it isnt too hard to build the headers themself.

Yes, those are mild steel. FI told me they would hold up better than SS on the street. They also told me 321 is 3x more expensive. They told me alot of things. (See Sponsor Feedback section for more details) Anyway, I wanted something that was durable, and I took their word for it. They will be "double" ceramic coated afterwords, with 2000* black, than 1400* bling on the outside.

The down pipes are going just to the outside of the headers. I will post more pics as I go. If you see the other pics I have posted in the past, I will be changing the position of the turbos. Right now Im leaning on putting them in front of the inner wheel wells, with the exhaust facing inward. But I wont be sure till is done.

Building a set of turbo headers was the hardest part of my turbo build. I must have tried four or five different setups before getting it right. As it turned out, the answer was right under my nose. I was twin turbo'ing a SBC, and I was staring at a set of stock Corvette LT1 headers when I realized they could simply be flipped over. . They even came with heat shields.

So ceramic coated mild stell is good for turbo headers? I thought they could only be stainless for heat reasons, but it makes sense. That can drop the cost of materials a lot.

Thats whats the "experts" have been telling me. Dont get me wrong, 321 stainless is probally more durable, but cost 3x the money. I was planning on coating anyway, (to keep the heat in) so I was told that mild steel is just as durable as 321 SS, just less expensive. The only hard thing will be keeping the coating on the headers.

321 is very expensive. I have had very good results with much cheaper 304 stainless. I'm surprised that they did not reccomend you use it...

They told me that 304 SS will crack easier than any of the other two. (321 or mild) Everyone seems to have their opinion. So with me being a first timer, its hard to decide which to go with. I figure that most headers on the market is made from mild steel, and other than rusting, they are very durable. After coating them, I hoping I wont have any issuse with them.

Thanks for the comments guys! More pics to come next week. The headers are being tig up now with the collectors on. I still have alot of fabbing to do, (turbo flanges,WG, DP, etc...) and will keep posting pics until the setup is done.

Ron
