Default Im sorry. I suck at cams and need opinions.

I dont get all the Cam talk even though I have been reading. I would like to Hit 380rwhp w/o heads. Just LT's for now. I dont get the diff kind of lobes lift duration blah blah blah. Would like a well balanced cam with good midrange. Wouldnt mind a little lump in the idle as its not a DD. What are some recomendations?

since you are a 6 speed I think that you could get away with a 230/234 .590's cam 112 or 113. You will have some lope to a cam like that. Are you planning on running nitrous or going to the track? What all are you going to do with the car? It would be easier to throw some suggestions at you if we knew what direction other than power you wanted to go.

For example. I made 377 with headers and cut out on an SLP LM1 with my 222/226 cam. You should be able to do it with most cams out there. The most common one for proven power is the 224/224.

Its not a twistie car. Out a couple days a month. Mainly worried about 1/4 times. I dont hit the track that much but want to look good when I go. Dont want to do nitrous. 380whp Will get you mid to low 12's right?

A TSP 228R or FMS F10 or F11, all three will do what you want. If you want to step up to something a little more stout, TSP torquer v.2 or FMS F13/F14. The TSP cams will have slightly more aggressive lobes. Those arent your only options by any means.

Update: Stock with mild suspension will get you 12's. Cammed + suspension should be damn near 11's.

Bear in mind there is more than just camming the car. There are other variables. Aggressive cams for the most part require dual springs ( can be expensive) that may need replacing somewhere down the line...15-20k +/-.
And be prepared to adjust you driving habits. Im assuming this is you first time camming a car? If so, may I recommend starting off simple.......something like a TR224 (224/224 .563/.563) or a Comp XE lobe. In other words, keeping it in the 224-228 duration and .540-.570 lift. Cams you can use a single beehive spring with...that is easy on the valvetrain and on the driver. They make exellent power/torque where you need it without the overkill.

I'll let you know soon about the TSP T2 232/234. I've got full exhaust, LS6 intake, and pulley ready to go in. Welded subframes, LCAs, panhard, sway bars too. I expect around 420rwhp with a tune.

i made 350/355 on a VERY STINGY mustang dyno with my TR230/224. The tuner said it should EASILY make 380+ on a dynojet. This is also with a stock LS1 manifold and mid-length headers. so with an LS6 intake i should be VERY close if not over 400whp on a dynojet.
Anyway i love this cam, after the tune it drives great on the road and has a very nice idle on the 111 lsa.

do some search on ls1sounds.com so you'll get an idea of what size cam sounds like, then more search on how much hp/tq to expect on that cam. ls1howto.com is another place to research about cams. dont forget on this web site you can find info on the sticky that r posted.

If you have most bolt ons I could see you hitting 380 with a 220/220 110. Plus you wont have to rev it up to get power out of it.

Yep, I reckon the venerable Comp 222/224@112 will get you there also. Great low, mid and upper range, with a very nice lope at idle and perfect street manners.

Good luck with the choice and my advice would be to drive a few cammed cars and choose what suits you the best for your driving. A power figure isn't the be all and end all.

Cheers,

Macca
