Default My Berger Panel is on...finally!

So after like two months, I finally put my panel on my car last night. The SS inserts are from dragonz28. Great fast service.

I got a brand new never painted tail panel off craigslist for $30. I primered and painted it and it came out like crap. I'm a perfectionist, and having a painted part go on my car, it must look perfect. I was real bummed it came out bad.

My dad's friend owns a very high end body shop in Santa Ana, CA. They only work on cars starting around $100k and up. When I went there to drop my panel I saw five smashed up DB9's, a few messed up Land Rovers, a F430 that was hit, a few Lotus's, and so on.

I dropped my panel off and he said he would primer it for me and then lay a guide coat down over it. He said it would be quicker if I picked it up in a week and sanded it myself, so I did that.

Here is the panel primered and it also has a guide coat on it so I know how much to sand.

See the sparkles? That's the guide coat.

Here is me wet sanding with 800 grit sand paper.

I took the panel back to Kye's shop and he said he would have it done in a few weeks. Well a month+ went by and I was nervous and excited to get it. My dad stopped by the shop yesterday to see what was up and see how Kye was doing.

The panel had been done for almost 3 weeks. Kye didn't want to give it to me because two pieces of dust the size of a grain of sand landed on the panel before it was dry. They landed on the part where the hatch closes over it so you can't even see it. You have to look for it with the hatch opened. So Kye wanted to re-spray it in a week when he was going to paint another car. My dad said it was fine. Dad wanted to know how much Kye wanted for the painted panel. "Just tell Keith when it's on, he needs to bring the car by so I can see it and he owes me a donut and coffee."

SS inserts on:

Here are some pics in the daylight/direct sun. I took them with my phone, so the quality is ok, not great.

What do you guys think? Satin Black is a generic name. Rally Black is the actual color.

First class job! Is it slick or does it have bit of texture to it? Regardless it looks great!

Have you ever clay barred your car before? You know how it's rough at first but then goes smooth? The guide coat does the same thing when you sand so you know the areas that have been sanded and the areas that haven't.

It is just a dusting of another color of paint/primer. Its so you can see your high and low spots while sanding. Also so you know where you have sanded and where you haven't.

Thanks. It's smooth just like the GMMG cars.

Here is a ZL1 car:

Looks great Keith ! Are you going to put your Z28 and bowtie back on? What about the GMMG decal?

Now she needs better exhaust tips (the oval ones) and an SS spoiler

Thanks everyone!

I want to get the GMMG metal badge, but I doubt I can find one. I'm not sure on the bowtie and Z28 badges. Looks clean and simple how it is.
