Would I be a fool?
To install a 220/228 601/613 112+4 cam with a stock stall/exhaust manifolds? Only reason I'm waiting on picking up the stall is a little fundage as well as the longtubes but its coming soon.
Whats making me wait on the stall is I'm going to rebuild the 103k 4l60e when the stall goes in. All I have right now is a cutout, lid, and ported throttle body.
Only reason I ask is I've seen quite a few do it with slim to no issues. I wanted to leave it to a stock tune until I get the exhaust/trans/converter done so I could do it all at once. I don't drive the car but on the weekends and figured as I already have all the cam swap stuff would it be bad to put it in to add a little flavor to driving the car sparatically?
Thanks a bunch fellas.
*Those who only gather conclusions for reading on the forum and have a stock car please don't respond*
Another question, do any of you think this cam would set off my VATS and not allow me to start the car after it runs a short time?

Already have some duals good to .625 or .650 lift, titanium retainers, and a new ls2 timing chain.

Not trying to halfass, just figured being as I already have everything for the cam swap if having it in until everything else gets done in a month or two. Money is not as large of a factor as time at this point. I work a lot and am just home on lunch right now. The time I do get is friday/saturday nights staying up all night to do something.

Hey I understand the time factor. Doing it all at once will take sometime if you are installing things yourself so I can agree to doing it peacemeal when you have the time. Just don't count on the car on been your only method of transportation. Also you will have to resist the temptation to get on it while untuned. While that cam has a good amount of lift it's duration is not to bad and you should be ok.

Without a stall, your car is gonna pull hard on the brakes at a stop light or even worse, in a parked stall. You can run it without a stall but it will be a PITA to do. I ran my cam without a stall for a while and I gave up driving it till I got a stall in there and damn, that thing woke the car up big time. Hope this helps.

The votes have it, I'm counting the days til my tax return comes in then I'll be doing the entire exhaust/converter(if I get froggy with this 102k transmission)/cam swap.
While the car is torn apart for the weekend I'll send the PCM off to the tuner I'm using and have it back to have a fresh tune for startup.
Very very very close fellas.

Cool you made your choice, but I see no reason to wait. Putting it together as you get the parts is fine. My guess is the tune wont be that bad either. And no your not half assing it by doing what you can when you can. Just because you need those other things to support the cam doesnt mean you cant live without them for a while.

I am just waiting for ChocoTaco to see this and give his $0.02.
Back on topic though. I cammed my car before I even had a lid. There are improvements from it. you just tend to see them more and more when you do bolt-ons.

I had done my cam and headers and saw only 355 on the dyno . Then I replaced my ls1 intake with an ls6 and got up to 375 from that alone. I dont think the intake netted me the adittional Hp alone I think it was the combination coming together.

Picking up 4200 vigilante stall, longtubes, 3 y-pipe with cutouts next week. I will use the stock catback or just put a bullet in the I-pipe and run two pipes out the back because I still want to be able to keep it quiet for trips that I take it on.
I only got 175miles out of the tank when I drove with the cutout open that I use now!
I am going to go with a mail order tune to start off with, I can't complain at all about the price, I wouldn't consider it if they hadn't done such a good job on my buddies 383 stroker 11.5-1 ls1. With a 3800 stall he went 11.10's first time out on a mail order tune on motor and his part throttle driving was awesome.
