For those that have swapped from a 17 inch wheel to an 18 inch wheel, how much traction is lost (assuming you run similar style tires)? Is it a big difference dropping from a 40 profile tire to a 35 profile?

It's more a function of the tire you buy than the minimal difference in aspect ratio. I went from a 275/40/17 to a 285/35/18 and since the new tires were better I actually had better traction. I think that even give the same exact tire that the difference in straight line traction woulb be minimal if any because there just isn't that much of a change in the contact patch between the two. You can always do like I did and get a slightly wider tire ti make up for any possible difference.

Mine handled like the same car, traction wasnt hurt at all ither. It did an 11.35 @130 on the everyday 295/35/18 Kumhos on a 1.85 60'.

I'll be staying with the same type of tire as before (Nitto Drag radial), however I currently have 275/40ZR17's and will be stepping up to 305/35ZR18's.

So the general consenses is that I shouldn't see much of any difference?

Thats good to hear. I always thought moving up in size to an 18 inch wheel that it would drop my traction. Seems like the general consensus is that the traction should be similar though.

Thanks for the inputs. Any more?

With that much larger of a tire on the 18 and the right psi, I bet you'll have more traction.
