Question Is it against the law to have nitrous equipment installed in on-road cars in Texas?

I was just wondering if I could get a ticket or have my car taken away by the state because it has nitrous on it, example: bottle with compressed gas?

I never got in trouble with it when I had it, and local LEO's knew I had it.

I heard years ago you couldn't have the bottle in the car, but I could be wrong.

It's not illegal for you to have the kit, you can have the bottle in the car as long as it isn't hooked up to the lines.

Just depends on the C O P as usual, I was recently stopped and have the bottle mounted between the two back seats. It was connected, bottle heater and all. I dont know if there is a specific law, but dont sweat it Just dont get caught spraying on the street cause a little damn honda is eggin you on!

i was pulled over twice and both times my bottle( lime green nitrex -they had to see it) was hooked up between the back seats and they didn't mention it. that may have been due to the ignorance of the officers. i am interested to hear the official ruling on this.

Not any more. Im not sure on the exact laws. the only one i know is the haz mat law. After you exceed 1000 lbs you gotta have a haz mat licence to transport.

Your ticket should indicate a code that refers to the exact law you are being charged with breaking. Post that up or google it and you should be able to read the exact wording. Then figure out if you were guilty of what it says.
