Default New times with new stall.

Hey guys, I posted a few weeks ago about purchasing a 3600 vig stall, now it's in.

Car: 99 A4, lid, ls6 intake, tune, knock-off muffler, and now a 3600 vig with a trans cooler and shift kit to compliment it. I also picked up a set of m/t et streets for tires since I knew I'd be blowing them off.

I use this car as a daily driver, so I didn't want it to be a pain to drive. I think I made the right choice with the 3600 though, it seems perfect. It slips a little bit but once it goes into lockup it's like it's not even there. Plus, nailing the throttle makes me happy so it's worth it. I'm glad that I didn't go any smaller than a 3600, even though others told me to.

My best time before the stall (just 1/8th around here, sorry) was a 8.23 @ 87.5 mph. It was a pretty cool day. Sorry I don't have the d/a for you but it was about 55 degrees or so.

I ran it today and it was unseasonably warm for February. It was about 65 degrees and I knew it was somewhat humid because my hair was frizzy

With the drag radials it is consistent as hell. I had about four or five 8.05 @ 85mph runs with 1.70 60's. Within hundredths of each other - very impressive. It cooled down a touch later in the day and I did two better passes, 7.97 and 7.99 @ 85.5mph with 1.63 60's. I think it could go a little faster if the weather was more accomodating. I thought/hoped it would be in the 7.80's, but I guess I expected a little too much. I was told it takes about .5 off of a quarter mile, so losing 2.5 tenths in the 1/8th is about right I surmise...

I do have a question though. When I had these tires before I remembered having to do a pretty significant burnout with them, so that's what I did today. With a burnout like that it 60'd 1.7X every time. When I cut burnout time in half, it dropped a tenth to the 1.6X's. Is it just putting too much heat through the trans when you do long burnouts? From now on I'll continue with the shorter ones. I basically wet the tires, and burn out until I see them start to smoke, and then pull up to the line.

Launching is a piece of cake as is. With a good burnout, it doesn't make enough power to spin at the launch - so I floor it and bam, it hooks and goes.

I am definitely very pleased with this modification!!

could be heating up too much, when the tire burns it forms crystals that slip instead of grip...

It doesn't feel like the tires though. It doesn't slip or spin at all, just the 60' is lacking a tenth with a long(er) burnout.

Good numbers.
You improvements would have been even better if you had had the same good weather that your previous passes were run in.

nice times, that appears to be a strong car sans headers.

my fuddle 4k stall dropped .55 off of my 1/8 mile ET (with a 1.70 60') when the car was stock except for a lid, 373s, and shiftkit. on the stock tune it banged the limiter like 8 times on 2-3 and layed down HARD on the shifts (i went with the transgo "full-race/high stall" shift kit, it hit too hard for tqm to cooperate..

went from 8.73 @ 83 to 8.18 @ 80. after tuning and more parts, the car went high 7.6x with bolt-ons.

What other bolt-ons? I would like to be in the 7.50-7.60 range before doing a cam or nitrous. I want to do headers and a catback next, hopefully that is good for something. I have 3.23s now and am wondering if 3.73s would be a worthwhile investment.

pacesetter headers
true duals
ls6 intake
ud pulley
!air/egr
no "free mods"..
stock (untouched) tb + maf, etc

i honestly wouldn't invest any money in a set of 373s - i did because i had a factory 273 car. get a girdle and call the rear done. there's no reason you shouldn't go 7.50s with that car after some parts. i sold mine at the end of summer and never got a chance to race in sub 85* weather (da ~2,500')...i'm convinced the car would've gone 7.50s with good weather and an on-time 2-3 shift.

you know adding headers to these engines is like spraying a 50 shot on most anything else.

Nice times, from your 1/8mile time looks like a 12.4-12.5 @ 108 in the 1/4.
