Default iron block 6.0 in camaro ss !!HELP!!

my friend and i just put a cast iron 6.0 in his camaro ss today, we used the ls1 heads and oil pan, has longtubes, chromoly pushrods, aftermarket cam. after we got it in today we hooked everything up we could find. at first it wasnt gettin fire but we found a crank sensor above the starter and plugged it up and it still wont start, it just backfires. but it is gettin fire. please give me some suggestions.

Swap your cam sensor out of the ls1 and see if thats the problem

will it backfire without the cam sensor plugged up?

Im not for sure. Ive never tried. But if the sensor is not working the ecm doesnt know when to fire the coil packs.

thanks, i think we missed the cam sensor when we were hooking it up.

sounds like you got the coil pack wires backwards

nope, just the cam sensor. it runs now/ we just need a tune because it wont idle after warming up.

was this a lq4 or lq9?????i thought the stock 317 heads were better than the 241 or 243s?

old heads were cast iron, our ls1 heads are ported and polishes we dicided to use them, and supposedly they make a little more compression.

The cam sensor is only used for referencing TDC, nothing else. The crank reluctor is used for all the timing events (fuel and spark). And as stated, you need to retune it as the engine size is now more then the ECM expects.

Because the table in the PCM that tells the IAC how far to open (desired idle airflow) needs to be adjusted and the idle fueling is most likely rich.
