Default Removing and upgrading 4L60E

Ok folks, just in case I do have a tranny ehading south i'd like to do some research now and start planning.

How ahrd is it to remove the 4L60E from a 99 T/A. we got a lift and air tools and all that good stuff. On average, how long should it take to remove and anything to watch for?

Next up, weak points of the 4L60E..

What should I replace and upgrade to make it fairly tough? It doesnt have to take no 8 second passes down the 1320 but I would like it to be able to take some abuse.

Im not intrested in a total tranny swap like to a TH-300 or whatever so don't chime in with that. I'd love to put a stall in but im not read yto drop that much $$ that I dont have and kill my gas mileage just yet.

**Thanks for your help guys!

10-15 min?! wow...thats really quick...takes me bout 45 usually. Probably a rebuild from a sponsor would be the best because it comes with a warranty.

With the tools you have it should not take to long a couple hours if you inexperinced , Just look at everything carefully ,
I too would suggest a unit from one of the sponsors (performabuilt cough cough lol) Let us know if you need anything

Question for performabuilt. how much abuse can your stage 1 4L60E comapred to the 2nd one? I know the first is rated at 500rwhp and I only plan on making like 450 MAX if ever.

They are both good units , And Im sure either would hold up , Personally though since you plan on getting close to the rated power of the level 1 and If you plan On doing any substaintial playing I would go with the level 2 its a lot more trans for the buck .
