Default 10 bolt trutrac first impressions

I finally got my 10 bolt rear rebuilt with a new detroit trutrac, motive performance 3.73's, ARP stud kit, solid pinion spacer, and new bearings. Although the setup was a bitch (took me about 14 hours to get it perfect) it drives sweet. The 3.73's are quieter than my factory 3.42's I had in there and the trutrac is completely silent unless turning real sharp in a parking lot.

I had tried 2 different factory torsen diffs before going to the trutrac and they both raised hell when turning corners in decel not to mention the 1 wheel peel at times. The trutrac ALWAYS hooks up both tires.

For the $349 I paid for the trutrac, it's the best diff for the money in my opinion.
Now........everybody say a prayer for my poor little 10 bolt, I'd hate to see my $700 and 14 hours of my own labor go up in ring and pinion teeth!!

Sticky tires are going on this weekend. We'll see how long it holds up. The car has the stock stalled A4 in it still so It might make it for a while. I'm wanting some 12's pretty bad

If you knew you wanted to shoot for 12's you shoulda spent that 700 and 14 hrs on a 12 bolt or 9", a built up 10 bolt will last you plenty long with an auto on the street, but put slicks on there and you are really asking for it

If you were shooting for 12's you didnt need to do anything to the rear end.

God I get sick of hearing everybody say "you should have bought a 12 bolt/9". I don't see any reason to spend an extra $2300 over the $700 I already spent for a 12 bolt to go into an A4 car with stock stall and no power adder. It's so easy to say "you need a 12 bolt" unless you're the one paying for it. Enough ranting......I'm done.

This thread was about the trutrac and how much I liked it. I see very few people using them in the 10 bolt (because they are weak, I know) so I thought I'd give my impressions. One thing about it, I bet if it does break it won't be the diff that lets go. That trutrac weighed about 40 pounds!!

I thought you had more mods, I didn't really look, your 10bolt should be fine then. I guess if I was in your place I would have done the 3.73s then a T/A Girdle and a 3600 stall with the sticky tires and been in the 12s with out a doubt.

The mods are coming fast these days though. I've got some pacesetters coming this week. Hope to get them on before going to the track Friday since I've already got a longtube tune in her.

The air should be good so I'm shooting for 12's anyway.

Most of the LS1 cars had a torsen diff. The LT1 cars mostly came with an auburn clutch style diff except for a few with the torsen SLP option.

90% of the people that always recommend the most expensive mod are the ones that dont even have them themselves and are just telling you Internet talk.
