I went to a drag meeting (LS1) and there were a lot of nice cars. I was ogling a CETA and talking to the owner when he mentioned he ran 10-30 M1 in it. I asked "wow, does it burn much oil?". He replied "nope, none at all". I then pulled the dipstick as he watched triumphantly (it was COVERED in oil). I wiped it off, inserted it, and it came back out registering 1/2 inch below the ADDXXXXX mark. He was 1-1.5qts low. Wow. Just a note to you guys, CEHCK THE DAMN THING ONCE IN A WHILE! I dont like all these spun-bearing posts.

I'm constantly checking the oil in all my cars. Just in case.

But I'm one of the lucky LS1 owners that doesn't have an oil burner.

Always remember to wipe when you first pull out your dipstick!

A look of dismay and an (as I saw) un-successful search in the trunk for a qt of M1. He ran the car again. Not sure if he filled it up or not. I did not see him with a bottle of M1, but that doesnt mean he didnt eventually find/barrow/buy one from someone.

Iive been lucky to when I bought my car I put about 2000 miles on it and it never burned a drop and i checked constant so im very lucky that its not a oil burner. My buddies damn near stock 00 ss burns about a quart every 1000 miles or so and its crazy all it has to exhasut and thats it, and the car only has 23,000 miles on it but o well maybe its his hard driving

I burn maybe 1 qt. every 5000 miles.....to me, this car burns less oil than any other car i've ever owned:)

My LT1 burned 0 and leaked 0. 170K miles.

My Ls1 leaks 0 and burns about 1/3 qt every 3K. 0-30 GC FTW!

havent burned a drop in 20300k miles. 20k of which was M1 5w30, with the last 300 or so being GC 0w30

Ryan,

Your car cant burn oil if you never drive it. Its a proven fact.

I change my oil every 2k miles and my car burns about 1/2 quart in that time frame. 118,000 miles

I find that I burn about a quart for 2k miles, only if I drive it hard. If I drive it a little less hard (not too many launches while DDing) it doesn't burn any. How hard do you guys (oil burners) drive?

1/3 qt every 3K and I get on it time to time from a roll and tach it out to 5500-5800 maybe 2 times a week or so. Basically I have fun with the car but I don't beat on it.

i ran mine a ct and half low for a week not to long ago, i tryed to take it as easy as possible to the auto store and then a cobra tryed passing me.. well obviously i couldnt let that happen so i ripped it next to him and pulled a good bit and when i was done i was so pissed at myself knowing the pain and suffering i was putting her through on low oil lol

the closest to that is "check oil level" or whatever.

or the cheap way "add water to oil to raise level"

I do believe thats an old school way of picking up like 5hp.

Always a good idea to check often. I found rust on my dipstick the other week. Turned out i had water in my oil, a blown head gasket on a NA motor with less than 7k miles on it.

Considering our LS1's crank wont get near that oil in the sump with anything less than 7qts in the pan I think that is null and void here.

 im lost at this "picking up hp/run it low on oil"?....we run 6 qrts for a reason...throwing another qrt in it isnt a good idea...or running it on 5..41/2 qrts isnt good either

For some reason i dont completely understand if your counterweights on your crank spin threw oil it is a parasitic drag on the rotating assembly. IF you go a lil skip on the oil like half to a qt. low to cut down drag you free up a few ponies. Basicly does the same thing as a windage tray except i dont recommend it. Hell it may not work with LSx engines i wouldnt do it.

ls engines have a widget on them so i dont think that the 1/2 gt low works, but it dose work for the oil leak in my f-250 lol.
