Default 9" Question!!!! Think I broke it.

I think I broke something in the rear not sure maybe you can help me. I was launching my car at 5200 r.p.m. with the 2 step with 3 to 4 p.s.i. I made 2 runs pretty good and on the last run it messed up. It is making kinda like a roaring noise like maybe a tire is rubbing,(it gets louder as the r.p.m.'s rise and speed) check my clearances nothing is touching. Checked the drive shaft to see maybe if I twisted it, it seems to be spining fine. It does it even when I push in the clutch. It shifts fine and clutch engages fine. I was told it could be a pinion bearing but not all that much sure. Im probably going to tear it down later 2 nite to see what I can find out just seeing if someone could point me in another direction other than the pinion bearing or if you know what it is. Also it has spohn tq arm and relocation brackets.

Thanks for your help,
Jimmy

My 9" "howls" a little bit, more like a loud steady hum I guess. I launch 6400rpm all the time on it. I just live with it.

Let me just say it is not the gear wine that is normal I drove it ad its not that. jimmy pull out the center section ad take it to be looked at, unless you see the problem when you pull it out. 4 bolts and backing plates, slide axles out about 6 " and unbolt center section it should fall out in your hands pretty easy.

Than y did it break? I have always been told that you couldn't break them. But, I did with 400rwhp and 465rwtq. Very little compared to some of these guys with alot more than me running a 9". Maybe it was a freak thing but it did happen. YOU HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY.

There are lot of things that could have happen. But it doesn't really matter, I rode on this rear end for about 6 months or 2500 miles never had a problem take it to the track and it breaks. So regardless if it is moser or not still a 9" and it still broke.

Sure it matters. If he sold you a shitty rearend, then it is more likely to break.

I know people @ my local 1/8 mile track that were doing 5000 RPM clutch dumps on the stock 10 bolt with slicks and never broke it (Lucky bastards!)

One was a Turbo LS1 on slicks ( Not launching as high as the 5000rpm clutch dumper) and one was a cam and bolt on LS1 running mid 7s in the 1/8 ( the guy dumping @ 5000 RPM) ...

Both on slicks, never broke the rear. So it must have been a defective rear an/or he sold you crap quality parts in the rearend assembly.

because that much RWTQ and RWHP doesnt break 9s.

I agree with you on alittle bit of it. But, I don't know got the new Nodular Iron Strange case on its way should be here tommarrow or monday got my bearing kit today. Lets just hope I don't break this bitch im tired of fixing ****. I haven't even really been able to enjoy the car yet. Haven't had the turbo and tune on it but a month. Lets hope we can make it longer this time.
