what would you do?
Basically my camaro has been in a shop for 3-4 weeks now. i'm replacing basically every suspension component and the rearend to get it ready for big hp.
Now, at the beginning the shop said it should only take a week. 3 weeks later, I decided to stop by to see whats up. (ive kept in touch over the phone every 2-3 days) I go their, and basicaly see very little done to the car after the 3 weeks. I couldn't get him to put it on a lift so I could see it, but the only thing they have put in was the k member(as it appeared) I saw stock shocks, springs, rear control arms, stock rearend, rear sway bar, etc, after being told over the phone that "everything was finished up amd installed except for the balljoint".
I went home, didn't say anything.... I was going to wait and see what happens, but decided to write an email. here it is:
_______
I was pretty upset when I came by the shop today. I was just gonna let it
blow over and see what happens, but I feel something needs to be said. First
off, when I talked to you about a week ago, you specifically told me that
everything for the front end was *done*. Then I talked to you a couple days
ago, and I remember you specifically saying that everything was *finished
up* except you were waiting on the tool for the balljoints.
Okay. So I walk into the shop today, see my camaro, with stock front shocks,
springs, and I noticed my rear stock control arms were still on. AND,you
told me on the phone that my rearend was already in, which obviously it
wasn't, and that you were waiting on that tool since your guy ordered the
wrong one.
Now I couldn't see everything under the car as their was no access to a lift
today, but im willing to bet that NOTHING has been put onto my car except
for the k member. Please correct me if im wrong. It would be pretty cool if
you didn't lie to me about it. I'm a pretty laid back, understanding guy,
and im sure you guys are a very busy shop, but thats a bit shady that your
trying to lie about whats done to my car, when nothing is.
Also, I walked around and looked at the pile where my motor, driveshaft, and
stock k member were....Thats it. No stock shocks, springs, rear sway bar,
rear LCAs, torque arm, etc. that you had said were already pulled and
replaced with my racing parts. Wouldnt you keep everything that you had
pulled together in one pile? Again, please correct me if i'm wrong
Now I don't mean to be dick about it, but I just want to lay it out how it
is, and get a grasp on whats *really* going on. Please continue to work on
my car, and I would appreciate it if you were honest in the future. Please
message me back or give me a call so I can understand, and so that we are
both clear as to what is going on.
_____
He replied with:
The things you cant see is that the suspension on the front with the shocks
are held on by 1 bolt and finger tight, since we don't have the ball joint
tool we didn't want the A arms to ride on top of your new shocks and eat up
the top. I've just told you what mike has told me, he said it was in and I
guess it wasn't it was ready to slide in the entire rear end is held in with
4 bolts as of now and the other rear is together so all we have to do is
loosen them and then bolt the new in. There are 2 piles of stuff for you
stock things and the motor/tranny d/s is one the rest is in the front of the
shop in the fab room where you didn't walk too.
______
So i went ahead and asked him to send me pics of the underbody/suspension, and asked when he thinks everything will be finished up. this was last friday and still no reply.
what would you do?
hope that made sense

Let me tell you what, a man knows not to F&#% with another mans emotions, and keeping you car for that long and not getting anything done is not cool. And any reputable shop has a ball joint tool. This sounds like a horror story waiting to happen tell them to put it back together and take it somewhere else. Hope I helped you out, keep us updated

that sucks dude and kind of scary considering their working on your car. You cant really do much though considering the car is undriveable as of now. Just make sure to talk to the main honcho and get everything clarified

well they said they broke the balljoint tool(wtf?), and they are waiting on the new one to be delivered.
should i wait a couple days and see what happens? or just pull it now and find a new shop. problem is, im not too sure of any other shops around here, this was supposed to be a "reputable" shop

File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, they will mark them in the book and do an investigation. Trust me, this will really scare them!

Also, don't let off. Stay polite, but the rule of thumb is "the squeaky wheel gets the grease".
I had a similar time with a headgasket job in the past. I just called them daily. So what if they were agitated, they most certainly didn't want me to come back.

talk to him today, basically told him it was a bit ridiculous we were in our 4th week now on a job that was said would be finished in a week. I asked him where we were at now and he now tells me that everything for the front suspension is in and that they are setting up the rear and taking measurments for it. I asked him when they are going to be finished up and he said it should be done on friday. So im thinking ill wait till friday, stop by the shop and if MAJOR progress hasnt been made ill just take it to another shop.

I really dont see this ending well for you at the moment. If they broke the tool, wouldnt they just go get another one if thats all that was holding them up? If they had told me that it was "finger tight" I would have been right back up there to see for myself, and Im not sure if it would sit well with me that they were "finger tight" but the car was back on the ground supporting itself.
Above all that, 4 weeks on a quoted one week job! Nope, my car would have been gone already. That is a one week job, two if youre a nice guy, but now ur just gettin run over.

Tough to say. I had a shop had my other car for a motor rebuild for 6 months when they said 1 month, and they did it half assed and charged me extra. I would recommend towing it out of there as soon as possible. If they lied to you that much, they will keep lying to you, they obviously don't care about you or your car, I would never trust them. I wonder if AAA would tow it to another shop for you, I think they would.
