Default Disgusted with MT ET Street Drag Radials 275-40-17

NEVER in my life have I spun on 5 straight runs, when NO ONE ELSE at the track was spinning...

This is TOTAL BS..
good smokey burnouts, 1500 rpms launch, 17 psi warm..

Back to BFG's..!

so much emotion

i went from nittos > bfgs > MTs. I would never go back to anything else.

I personally think you have other issues, but maybe not.

No changes to my car..
They worked fine last week, 7-8 runs...
Today, I was on a sheet of ice, but no one else was...

I polled everyone.. they all ran em @ 17 psi, 1500-1600 launch, all w/ 3600 stall & 3:90 rears... Thats 4 different guys, none of them spinning ...

Plenty of tread, lines clearly visible..

Just a thought ... MT says you are supposed to give them one hard burnout and then just light burnouts afterward if you are doing repeated runs. The way the tire compound is set up, too much burning out has a negative effect on traction with these tires.

happened to my friend too on a bolt on 3500 stalled LS1 TA with 273 rear gears spun on the street and track....then hooked low 1.8 high 1.7 60' with his street tires on the same track same day. My MT ET street radials are great though maybe MT is having some issues with these tires?

I had them before my 325/45/17 M&Hs. Never took them to the track, but they were horrible on the street. Even hot, they were awful. The M&Hs made all the difference (and the added two inches of height). Even on the street they hook pretty hard (even cold).

You are correct these tires don't need a lot of heat after the initial break in that could be his problem.

Hey Scott,
How do those M&H tires last street driving and how do they handle?
I am looking at some but I am not as familiar with them thanks.
(sorry not trying to highjack your thread !)

I would be that friend he was talking about... Just like stated before, I smoked the hell out of the tires and I still couldn't get any grip. On those tires I was pulling 12.7's-12.8's all day long. I switched back to my street tires and I ran a 12.51 for a best time, and 12.5's consistantly thereafter. I don't know why, but I can't get those tires to hook worth a ****!

I've never had a problem hooking with mine except when track conditions were poor.

I got M/T's and used to have same problem till some one told not to do such a long burn out. I used to smoke-um up but, now I only do a burnout till I see smoke coming up my rear from my rear view mirror. works great now. 1.6 60 ft.

25 degrees over track temp. I heated the hell out of them and spun like crazy, someone told me to do a light burnout and it made a world of difference. Too much heat will make them greasy.

Sounds like an isolated incident. I have not seen many problems at all with MT DRs. It is possible to get a bad pair but I'd dig deeper before I pointed fingers at the tires themselves.
