Default A4 + 3.42's, Gas Milage?

I was just curious as to whether or not anybody has an A4 LS1 on here and added a set of 3.42 gears to replace their 2.73s? If so, did you notice a drop in your gas mileage? I want to upgrade to some 3.42s for some more kick to my automatic equipped LS1, but don't want to be sacrificing gas mileage. If anybody has experience in this, let me know. Thanks.

I wouldn't think it will decrease too much really. I plan on going to 3.73's in my SS.

I've got an A4 with the stock 3.23 gears and I get around 280-320 miles to the tank, I do about 50/50 highway and city driving. I get on it a lot though and my rear tires hate me, but I cant' get enough of hearing the ls1 through the loudmouth exhaust and the smell of burnt rubber ha ha maybe I should see somebody about this obsession . I would think you would see similar results as me about 16.5-19 mpg

Alright thanks for the input. I spoke with a friend who put 3.73s in his T-bird and said that he gained a few mpg around the city because the engine didnt have to work as hard to overcome the initial inertia of the vehicle. He also said that he lost 2-3 on the highway because of the engine revving higher. I just dont wanna lose like 3-4 mpg by switching to a ratio thats almost 3/4 of a turn more than what i have now.

Well, I used to get 260 miles/tank city mixed highway driving and about 400 miles on highway driving on stock 2.73s. Now with 3.42s I get 200-216 miles a tank on city mix with highway and 316 miles on the highway. I also have Yank stall also so city mpg does suffer more.

yes I think they do have a smaller tank, like 15.? compared to 16.8 of 99+, not positive on the exact size but there is a difference
