Should i go ***** out with solid roller in my MTI 427 LQ4?
I am still probably going to stay with the radical S1 MTI hyd. cam for my 427 ironblock being built by MTI as we speak and my car arrives in about 1 week.
TO make up the smaller bore i have to go with b/c of the LQ4, 4.060 bore matched with the 4.125 crank (427 cid) i am wondering whether i should just spend the extra $3,000.00 and go ***** out with the solid roller. I figure this will more than make up for the little less horsepower i will be making with 4.060 bore vs. 4.1 bore if i had gone the resleeved MTI 422 route.
I need to make my mind up now if i am going to do this and probably will just go with the S1 hyd. cam but a solid roller would be awesome as this should get me 500rwhp thru the A4 tranny and better street manners/idle (and almost gurantee consistent 10 second time slips on motor). Without the solid roller i will probably only make 470rwhp?
I don't mind having to check the valve lash a couple of times a year and what other negatives would there be other than the $?
All thoughts appreciated and thanks.
Enjoy the Holidays!

I'm going to be solid roller pretty soon . . . if you are willing to wait, I can let you know how different it is.
Do have to say that the hydraulic roller gets pretty tame after awhile. It's funny how the ante keeps going up and up on this. I now drive a crazy fast car, and it is beginning to seem slow to me. When does this stop?

Go solid roller. that is what i am doing with my ARE 382 AB. why not if u got the money. It is better to do it than to look back & think man i wish i would have done that.Plus u get the added hp <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> & it is kind of cool because not many people run around with a solid roller, that would make your 427 all the more unique.

I figure that a solid roller/nitrous setup like I will have will potentially be a 9.7x (or faster??!) car. Already have to have a 10-point cage and license to even run that at the track.
Down the road, some kind of twin-turbo setup will come, but not yet. I figure that will be when I do hit the limit. Any faster than that = no longer streetable.

I don't think a solid roller is going to be worth 30rwhp for you, but you might pickup 15-20 and another 500-700rpm. It all depends on your gearing and stall.

We've had guys on our dyno take out decent street hyd roller cams and install solid rollers, put them on the dyno, lose 40 lb ft of torque and pick up 10 RWHP. With all the people (7) we have running in the 8's (sorry, no LS1's) with hyd roller cams (with less then 350 cu in and at 3200 lbs), why would you buy a solid roller. We have these cams going 8000 rpm so turning it up is not a problem, you just need a good cam lobe. These really work well with power adders. Good luck either way.
