Default Budget Build Lt1 Help Me Out!

I have 6K max for this project and the car is stock!

Stock motor and trans...

Trans needs to be rebuilt anyways


Rear end is fine, thats going to stay it has a 2.73 I belive..


NOT A DAILY DRIVER


Im thinking a max effort Head n cam car, with a Th400?

Using factory ported heads, and a custom matched cam...

Is a Th400 convesion going to make it in my budget?


Sus is just going to get rear drag shocks, and control arms with panhard bar other wise stay stock for good street manners

I still think that is a poor choice for a tranny. If it were a max effort race only car and you were using a transbrake then maybe but for this all I see you getting out of it is a poor first gear and greater parasitic losses.

I tend to agree with him. swapping to a 400 is a bad idea unless this is a race only application. I build 4l60's and they can be made to hold power, but it aint cheap. And neither is swapping to a 400, plus you lose power, and OD. Also if you build a max effort head/cam car and try to drive 2.73's its gonna be a slug. You're going to need a nice stall and at least 3.42's minimum. Since its not a daily driver, I would suggest 3.73's MINIMUM. Depending on cam choices, the stall will vary, but dont go lower than 3k rpm and plan on spending $800 if yer gonna stick with the 4l60e for a GOOD quality converter. T.C.'s make or break a car.

Gear and stall will be down once ive got the top end done....

Im going with a 3.73 in the rear...

bookshelf is a selling a T350 on chitown, new DRC without a transbrake for $550, that might be a good start. You should talk to Speed Inc. about Jay Behari's old combo, that combo ran great.
