Default Melling High Volume Oil pump w/Rollmaster Double Roller

I did a search and found a few threads but none seemed difinitive with regards to being able to use a Double Roller with the Melling 10296. I saw some saying they need to clearance the front cover and others stating they had to clearance a coulple spots on back of the pump. I am looking for somebody who has a Melling High V Pump and uses it with a Rollmaster Double Roller...what needs to be done to run this combo?

Thanks

You have to get the pump cover milled. Thats is the only way it will clear.

I have the Melling oil pump and a rollmaster timing chain on my 402 LQ4 combo. No clearance problems and I am using the timing cover from my old LS1 block.

Do you have the high volume version #10296?

Are you using a Double Roller or Single Rollmaster?

Thanks

i used some layout fluid on my front cover so i could see where the pump was hitting and went to work with a die grinder. took a few times, but it worked out.

Double roller and high volume version. Still breaking in the motor. At idle my pressure is right around 52 psi. About 4500ish RPMs my pressure is about 70 psi. I have not done any WOT activity yet.

I have one of these pumps I just installed w/ a rollmaster double roller. Is the clearance issue obvious when you put the cover on or is this something that you dont notice until the car is started with a rubbing or grinding of some kind?? My cover went on fine, no binding or anything, just want to make sure.Thanks.

Mine went on just like that also. From the sounds of it, if there is clearance issues with the cover, they are completely obvious.

Man I really hope so, cause right now the car isn't done and was about to put the radiator back in tonight or tomorrow. That would suck to have an issue, especially now when it isn't a PITA to simply pull off the balancer and water pump.

I know this sounds dumb, but what about using two gaskets to shim it up?

I just got the pump and measured it against my LS6 Katech ported pump, there is approximately 1/16" difference between the two...the Melling being the thickest out of the two.

So if my front cover doesn't fit with the Melling pump, it appears that the most I will have to grind is about 1/16" of an inch where the bolts on the pump meet the front cover.

I am thinking since I am feeding an oil cooler and two turbos..that I will leave the Red spring in it....the way it came.

Also keep in mind with the double roller, there are shims. The shims will move the pump out and closer to the cover their width, so you might have to grind the 1/16" + the width of the shim.

Yes you are correct and thanks for looking out. I actually have had the double roller for sometime and had to use the shims with my LS6 pump....so I understand exactly what you are referring too...but appreciate you mentioning it.....I should have titled my post a little different as it makes it sound like I am adding both parts at the same time...the reality is I'm just adding the Melling Oil pump to my setup that was already using a Double Roller.
