Default 5.3 L in 69 camaro. Need info on oil pan!

I am putting a 5.3 in my 69 camaro. I know that the camaro oil pan needs mods to clear the steering. Will the truck oil pan need similiar mods. If so does anyone have pics and info. Thanks!

read the first gen sticky:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-swaps/472609-lsx-into-67-69-camaro-basics.html

The truck pan hangs down too low. You need an aftermarket pan or a modified fbody pan.

Just a question, but why the 5.3 and not the 5.7?

where it would hit the steering linkage, just cut 1'' across and 1'' down and it will clear.

It is a 5.3 because of the budget. I bought a wrecked Chevy Silverado and parted it out to pay for the engine and tranny. I ended making a little money. A few hundred anyway and I got the engine and tranny, and put the rear end in my brothers truck. My thinking is that I will install what I can afford now and maybe one day I can make the swap to a ls2! It will bolt right in once I have the crossmembers made.

i'm dropping a 5.3 in a 68 camaro. using autokraft pan & engine mounts. using this combo clears the steering linkage. i've also have a unisteer r&p that hasn't been installed yet. looks like there will be enough room for that. 5.3 intake is too tall for flat hood. the alternator also is too high. a fiberglass cowl hood should clear the intake fine. not sure about the alternator. another option is switching to 5.7 intake

A good low mile 5.3 with complete for under a grand? Better add $500 to a $1,000 if you want something that will run with all the parts to make it run.

Bragger! I paid $2500 for one from a 2007 Tahoe, with trans. WHere did you get one for $300? Anyway, rock on with that 5.3, because, as you said, when you are all done with the swap you can always just bolt in a 6 litre later!

A local salvage yard could not get it started do to a damaged wiring harness from the accident. So they sold it to me for core value.

Low mileage would make it tougher, but to me mileage isn`t so much of a factor with these newer motors. It use to be with a GEN I SBC 100,000 and it was tired, but these new motors seem to last longer.

Last year I paid $800 for my motor with all the accys except the A/C compressor, it also included the PCM, all the wiring, the air intake system, throttle cable, cooling hoses, belts, all the sensors except the O2`s, and it came with a 90 day warranty, it had 110k on it at the time. As far as durability it still has all the factory parts, now that I think about it I should probably do a tune-up since it now has 130K on everything including the original GM spark plugs, wires, belts and radiator hoses.

I paid $200 for a 4l60e transmission from a member of a local board. I know that the trans was a screaming deal, but I have seen complete pullout 5.3s on ebay for less than 2000. The deals are out there, you just have to spend time searching for them. I bought my motor from a yard in michigan, just a quick couple hundered miles to go pick it up

If you look at it tho, the 5.3L makes around 290-295hp. Thats what an SS 350 made in 67. and 300hp in 69. You can add the LS1 Intake and drop a cam in and even supercharge it and your fine. Its just like having a 327 but fuel injected.

Last year I paid $2,200 bucks for my 5.3/4l60 combo that included a 12k 05 all aluminum 310HP 335TQ 5.3 with a 2006 4l60 with 2K, all accessories, computer, wiring harness and fuel pump assembly from the 05. Trust me that was a good deal for what I got. No offense guys but these conversion swaps are way to much work to be using core engines and trannys or ones with a ton of miles, and then crossing your fingers hoping they will work. For me you are money ahead to get something with low miles so that you can have a little piece of mind that you can drive all of that work for years to come.
