Default 02 Z06... stock rear tires really suck?

I've got a 35k mile Z06 with newish OEM tires out back... This car won't hook off the line even with the traction control on... What tires can I put on there to get a little hook without getting wheel hop? Nitto DR's or road race tires?

I have 305/35/18 Nitto DR on my car and love them. They're good in the rain and can last you a 10k depending on how you drive your car. I will get another set.

Yeah John, wheel hop on the stock tires is pretty bad. They are REALLY bad on the regular C5s.
Put some nitto 305s on there

LOL ls1cantu (edgar?), I keep looking at this extra set of rear rims I have and think of getting some dr's, put on the Vararam airbox, and the ported TB, and go take it to the track.

If you want a good long lasting tire use the Nittos. I was happy with them until having exceeded 450 rwhp. I now think I am going to move to mickeys or BFGs for my new tires. The worst part is having to replace them so quickly.

Okay thanks. How about the road race tires? Are they cheaper? Do they last longer?

The road racing Nittos are more expensive than the drag radial Nittos. I would say they last about the same, but have a stiffer sidewall. If you are looking for a tire for longevity I suggest the Firestone Wide Ovals. I still have my front wide ovals going strong after 30,000 miles and 2 years. Now the rears ran out about the average tire time due to all the burnouts and spinning I did, but we good for almost 20,000 miles with my driving style.

I had stock original F1 supercars on my car until a month ago and they were horrible, primarily due to their age. I replaced the whole set with stock size michelin pilot sport ps2's which seem really nice. Once the tires are warm they give only a light chirp chirp chirp in first gear at WOT and just hook, a nice improvement in grip. Approaching the limit the tires are very predictable and give you plenty of audible warning that you're pushing the envelope. One of the biggest selling points to me is that the set of tires weighs 20lbs less than the supercars. They aren't the cheapest tire you can get, but for an honest street tire I'm not sure you can do better.

Thanks guys, appreciate all the input. I remember the F1's on my old 98SS M6, that car was all over the place but then again the tires had a treadwear rating of like 300.

nittos are the best for daily driving, bfg drag radials are good on stock rims315/35/18s.if you can find a set of ccws 16 inch e.t. streets hook like a bitch, but suck in the rain.i always run the bfg drag radials on the street and the ccws if i am going to the track.

My vote is for the Nitto 555RII Extremes. They hook really good and have decent sidewalls for daily driving.

I had the Nittos on my T/A and they last roughly 10,000 miles. The Bfg's on the other hand lasted less than 5,000 miles. Both tires were driven normally on the street.

Try the Michelin PS2 sport tires. Great tires. Expensive, but traction is priceless. Let me know if you go with those tires John.

John: I cut 1.8s at will on Firestone Wide Ovals in my mostly stock 2001 Z06 (ASP pulley). These tires hook.

I couldn't granny drive with my stock tires without sipping all over the place. The Good-for-one-year's suck big hairy donky nuts.

As long as I don't break the rearend, I will get Nitto DR's. Right now I have to pedal it in 1st AND 2nd gear.
