Default Anyway to lower the TA without purchasing springs?

I know that the C5s are able to be lowered by just removing a few bolts. Is there any "free" method for the Trans Ams? I'm assuming no, but I figured it is worth a try to ask.

Not like the C5's no, you could cut a coil out of the springs but its not recommended unless you know what you're doing.

you can take and remove the rear spring pocket at the top and replace it by a piece of 3/4 inch heater hose slid around the top coil of the spring gives you anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inch of drop in the rear to get rid of the factory rake these cars have.

The only way to lower the rear of the car is to do the heater hose as was already suggested. You might was well replace the rear shocks with Bilstiens while your there.

You can lower the front by installing Koni SA shocks. They have two (if I remeber correctly) perches you can use. The Koni's will drop you about an inch in the front and the heater hose will drop you about 3/4". These two mods will level the car out nicely and should have come this way from the factory.

I cut mine. I know it's not a good way to do it but it does the job until I decide what springs to go with.

i see you all fail to see the redneck way of lowering the car....andy im ashamed you didnt know

you can heat the springs with a blow torch and press them, measure them all the way around for right fit and there your done...

now to those who will flame me....this has been done to a s10 and a 3rd gen firebird....learned it in nashville....

however... i personally wouldnt do it

jacob i would never tell anyone to heat their springs with a torch that changes the tensile strenght of the spring and imo makes it it ride like a slammed out riding on bumpstops mini-truck also on top of that if you heat a spring too much it can become brittle and break.

That's why I didn't recommend it

That Heater Hose mod interests me though.

Whats the time frame on a job like that for someone like me who just has a few of them plastic tool boxes and a jack with jack stands? I have a decent line up of sockets and the like but no air tools. Is there a tutorial anywhere, with pics?

its not hard jack the back let the rear end sit at full hang and if you unbolt the shocks it will make it easier to get them out take and remove the springs take out the like black rubber spring insolater and just take a 6 inch piece of 3/4 heater hose and wrap it around the top coil of the spring i did it on a lift for a friend once and it only took like 10-15 min id say thats 30-1h on the ground with out air tools

Basically the heater hose is just dampening to keep from clanging around, and to help from being metal on metal?

blow torch + coil springs = BAD

heating up springs changes the material properties which can make the spring rate go way up which will make a very very hard ride

I know people who have done it, but its not a good idea

I cut mine more than a year ago. The ride is a tad stiffer (in a good way) and after they settled, the height stays the same.

I am about to do the "hose mod". Does anyone have any before and after pics or any pics of any cars period so I can see the stance. I know every car will be different, just want an idea.

Report back if you do proceed to do it. I am curious to see pictures of the drop as well. I'm really only looking for 3/4-1 inch drop as I go over tons of speed bumps daily. Just need to get rid of the 4x4 look.

It is all I can do as my duals scrap now at times on center humps in the road (really bad ones anyway) and speedbumps. Might be a while, it is in the process of a A4 to 6M swap. Everything is out, 6M is going to be rebuilt, then everything will be put back in.
