why the hell does my car keep popping outtta 3rd gear

Default why the hell does my car keep popping outtta 3rd gear

I cant figure it out....when i hammer the car it doesnt happen, when i am jus normally driving it'll pop outta 3rd at low rpm.....drving me ****** nuts!!! Anyone have any feedback on this issue..?? I searched but didnt really find anything pertaining.........

Mine did the exact same thing... It stopped doing it as much once I put amsoil in my tranny (yes it still pops out occasionally), and I am more careful when I shift into third anymore but I dont really know what caused it.

this happends to my reverse I think someone told me its my syncros or something like that.

You need a new third gear/fork.synchros.

Have it rebuilt with all good steel goods.

Normaly what happens is, when you start to grind on third it rounds the edges of the gear and then it wont stay inserted in that gear any more.

***...cant afford a full rebuild right now...guess i better lay off the N20 for now

sometimes on the gas it'll "clunk" into 3rd really hard...also a sypmtom of what your describing here? Its always SOMETHIN'!!!

Just curious, aftermarket or stock shifter??? Didnt see that you mentioned it.

I have a b&m ripper, and yes my shifter pops out in 3rd and reverse as well...

There was a TSB (01-07-29-003A) issued on this soon after these cars were first produced. I had mine fixed under warranty. I don't know what your warranty situation is, but you could take the TSB and see if you can get a dealer to handle it for you (they'll only do it for free if they think there's a chance they'll be reimbursed by GM). How about 01black.... Aftermarket shifter? Does it pop out in reverse on ya??

I've got factory hurst with LSS.....i wanted to switch to a billet plus, just never got around to it

NICE!!! I looked through the bulletins but couldnt find anything specific..now i have something to give the dealership!! THANKS ALOT MAN!!!

i dont speed shift it ('speically on the gas) wonder why they'd be worn already....its a 2001 and its got just at 55k on the odo.....

no never pops outta reverse that i can remember......hard going into rev sometimes thats about it
