Default Lost 5 MPH in the 1/4 Any Ideas?

Well I went to the track Last wed. and on sat. I'm down 5mph and 4 tenths. I don't know why I havent changed anything that would slow me down. Air was in the 300's on both sat and wed. Last year when I ran 118mph air was in the mid 400's. Wind was less than 5mph and it was a cross wind.

Last year 11.74 @ 118 91.2 in the 1/8
This year 12.28 @ 113 88.7 in the 1/8

Seems to be a even loss across the board.

Heres some info. I have all bolt ons 12 bolt 3.90's, and ARE stage 2 heads and cam 224 234. Stock fuel pump and injectors.

Things changed since last year.

1 Torque Arm. But last year 60' were 1.64 to 1.72 this year they were 1.67. to 1.72 I set up the TA to -2.

2 Rear end reset up but its the same rear end and gears. I just changed the backlash from .000 to .008. Moser was nice enuff to send it to me with no backlash at all.

3 New rotors. They are lighter than stock by about 2lbs each.

4 Chrome Moly panhard rod.

5 Over the winter I took off the intake valve covers and waterpump, had them painted. Everything was reassembled and checked twice. The car still runs good but does not pull like it did last year.

Things I've done to try to fix the problem.

1. I checked to make sure that when the pedal is press to the floor the TB is opening all the way. Results were TB opened all the way.

2. Changed spark plugs. Gapped to 50? Is that a good gap for my setup?

3. Checked all plug wires to make sure connection is good.

4. Checked all connections on motor to make sure there were no unplugged connectios.

Oh yea my car is a 01 and has 10k on it. The motor has only about 1200 miles on it. Raceweight is very close to the same as lastyear. Should actually be a little lighter.

Any help or advise would be great.

Thanks Rob

You really need to ATAP your car. My first guess would be that you are seeing knock retard which is pulling back your timing. Most likely cause would be oil sucked through the PCV if you still have the stock set-up.

Unfortunatly I don't have ATAP. It looks like I'm gonna have to buy it. I do not have the stock set up there is no air pump or EGR anymore I took all of that out. As for the PCV why would that all of the sudden pull oil, how can I check that and if it is how would I fix that?

Thanks Rob

I checked the PCV. There is no oil at all in my intake. I can stick my hand with a papertowel in there and wipe and get no oil. I'm guessing thtas not my problem.

What else could cause Knock Retard?

I have burned a bit of oil but doesn't seem like a whole lot, less than a 1/4 of a quart in 1200 miles. Plugs look great no oil at all on them.

Come guys hlep me out with some idea here. I'm working on getting it ATAPed.

Checked the exhaust last night to see if it was hitting anywhere. I found one spot on the Driveshaft loop that seemed to be hitting and the Torque Arm was hitting the floorboard. I fixed both of those problems and reset the computer last night. I haven't had a chance to track test it yet maybe tonight. On the road it doesn't seem to have solved my problem though.

You're lucky if you have no oil! I just replaced my PCV with the LS6 set-up and couldn't believe how oil soaked everything was.

You may be getting KR as a result of running lean. Several things can contribute here (descreened or modified MAF, ported TB, etc).

John I have a ls6 maf from slp. On my last tune I was at 10.9 on a wide band I sent the computer back to ed wright and told him what I was at He took away some fuel and I picked up 6mph in the 1/4 and was running 118 mph all summer long last year. Over the winter I just made those few changes. And now I lost 5 mph Dunno. Can the programming just change? I don't see how I didn't make any changes that would lean it out.

I did remove the air pump but it was programmed out a long time ago.

Dunno I'm going to get it ATAPED this weekend.

im by far no expert but did you burn the gas out when it was stored? could the computer be running on the low octane table? keep us informed!

Yes I have. I have been through 3 or 4 tanks this year so far.

I finally had it ATAPed yesterday thanks to Doc99ss. We found bank1 O2 running at around 630mv and bank2 running at around 820mv. (seems weird to me that one side would be running that low and not the other side) I'm not sure those are really accurate though as I used to run alot of leaded gas, I'm going to swap out the O2's and try again. But it seems to be running Lean. We did not see very little KR if any. Every thing else looked pretty good.
