There is nothing happy about Memorial day.
Memorial day is a day of observance for America's fighting men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
You can observe Memorial Day ;
by visiting cemeteries and placing flags or flowers on the graves of our fallen heroes.
by visiting memorials.
by flying the U.S. Flag at half-staff until noon.
by flying the 'POW/MIA Flag' as well (Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act).
by participating in a "National Moment of Remembrance": at 3 p.m. to pause and think upon the true meaning of the day, and for Taps to be played.
by renewing a pledge to aid the widows, widowers, and orphans of our falled dead, and to aid the disabled veterans.
"...gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with choicest flowers of springtime....let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us as sacred charges upon the Nation's gratitude,--the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan." --General John Logan, General Order No. 11, 5 May 1868

Well it doesn't have to be a unhappy day...yes remembrance is AWESOME and I wish would pay more respects to the day and understand its true meaning but again its not a unhappy day. By the way Im flying a POW/MIA flag in flag pole and my flag over the garage. Im 8 years Air Force and come from a very long line of military.

Its a day to remember our fallen but also be happy that with their sacrifices that they made that we still are free and able to have a great country.

Memorial day to me is a celebration to lives of the fallen heros. They are the ones who make our country able to be as great as it is. BTW Im 8 years Army with 2 tours in Iraq under my belt with a few friends lost over there so I think I am qualified to think happy thoughts about them. Sorry that just rubbed me the wrong way I guess.
