If you are talking the transmission, no. The bellhousing on 98+ cars has a different bolt pattern and is detachable whereas the 93-97 bellhousing isn't.

yes....if a th350 and 400 can fit an ls1 then a lt1 tranny can oblivously...

youll need a spacer i believe to go behind the flywheel...gm sells it...look at swapping a th400 in a ls1 and find out i believe its the same part

i wish i had of opened my mind when i did the swap bc the lt1 has a cover removeable to inspect the converter and front of the tranny and you can do flywheel bolts without removeing starter...ls1 cant do any of it...

also if you use a ls1 tranny you have to modify the lt1 tranny corossmember...the lt1 tranny i dont think youll have to

I was under the impression he was asking about the stock 4L60E, not a TH400 or 350, my bad.

I know that you can use an adapter to bolt the trans up, but I thought that the wiring was different.

The connector on the trans is the same, but I think internally the wiring is different.

I know that depending on the year the 4l60e`s had different #`s of solenoids in them, but I don`t remember what the year cutoff`s were

There is not a LS1 flywheel that will line up with holes in the LT1 torque converter. You will either have to run a LS1 converter for a 4l60e, or drill, punch holes in the flex plate. The LSx flexplats moved the converter bolts out about 1/2 of an inch.

I am in the middle of putting a 2001 5.3L and a 1997 LT1 4L60E into my 67 pickup. I used the spacer so the converter hub will be supported, and drilled 3 holes in my flex plate. Works great.

in 1995 the 4L60E added a TCC Modulator Solenoid, for Partial LU (or slip)

The internal wiring remains the same up to about 2004 when a turbin speed sensor was added. Now, there could be some difference in solenoid resistance in some of these years, I'm not for sure. I compaired the 1997 LT1 4L60E wiring with a 1999-2000 LS1 4L60E and they are identical.

problem with that is the LS1 flywheel is not flat. Yes, the converter could bolt up, but the converter pilot would be unsupported. Not good for the pump bushing. The best way would be a flat flex plate from say a 6.0L engine with the adaptor spacer between the crank & flex plate.

I have used the LS1 flex plate before, but its hard to get it working with out a vibration.

Use part number 12551367 for the flexplate and spacer 12563532

You may need to go to a GM dealer and find longer bolts for the flex plate as well, they are M11x1.5x37 if my memory serves me right. Look up parts for a GMC 1500HD with a 6.0L engine.

Any update if you got the trans working with the ls1. I was wondering if it was possible. Hope to do the same thing as you, just trying to see it a lt1 a4 will work for sure.

My 97 LT1 4L60E trans works great behind my 5.3L engine with a 411 PCM running it.
