yes....if a th350 and 400 can fit an ls1 then a lt1 tranny can oblivously...
youll need a spacer i believe to go behind the flywheel...gm sells it...look at swapping a th400 in a ls1 and find out i believe its the same part
i wish i had of opened my mind when i did the swap bc the lt1 has a cover removeable to inspect the converter and front of the tranny and you can do flywheel bolts without removeing starter...ls1 cant do any of it...
also if you use a ls1 tranny you have to modify the lt1 tranny corossmember...the lt1 tranny i dont think youll have to

I know that you can use an adapter to bolt the trans up, but I thought that the wiring was different.
The connector on the trans is the same, but I think internally the wiring is different.
I know that depending on the year the 4l60e`s had different #`s of solenoids in them, but I don`t remember what the year cutoff`s were

There is not a LS1 flywheel that will line up with holes in the LT1 torque converter. You will either have to run a LS1 converter for a 4l60e, or drill, punch holes in the flex plate. The LSx flexplats moved the converter bolts out about 1/2 of an inch.
I am in the middle of putting a 2001 5.3L and a 1997 LT1 4L60E into my 67 pickup. I used the spacer so the converter hub will be supported, and drilled 3 holes in my flex plate. Works great.
in 1995 the 4L60E added a TCC Modulator Solenoid, for Partial LU (or slip)
The internal wiring remains the same up to about 2004 when a turbin speed sensor was added. Now, there could be some difference in solenoid resistance in some of these years, I'm not for sure. I compaired the 1997 LT1 4L60E wiring with a 1999-2000 LS1 4L60E and they are identical.

I have used the LS1 flex plate before, but its hard to get it working with out a vibration.
