Default Backfiring

I just installed my headers, ory, and a bbk tb a few days ago. I just finally drove it hard tonight and when I redlined and shifted I got a really loud backfire, like a gunshot. Could my car be that badly out of tune or is there something else wrong here? I also have a jet performance module that attaches to the pcm that the previous owner put on and I'm pretty sure its only for really mild mods like a catback and a cai. Thanks.

I had the same problem!! but my car would backfire when i slamd on the gas or sometimes when i would turn it on!!! it sounds like you need a tune!!! most likely thats the problem. just wondering did you remove your spark plugs when you installed the headers? because if you didnt you probably craked one of them!!

If its when you come off the gas then its nothing to worry sbout.

I have this when I changed my fuel injectors and not fulle tuned them. Its excess fuel in the exhaust, and when you come off the car it ignites, the gas ignites when you are going lean (coming off the gas) Mine does it when I enter DFCO, but can also be caused by an exhaust leak. I could tune out the popping sound when coming off the gas but I quite liked it so kept it in. Occasionally get a flame out the back end. :O)

Yeah I was getting flames each time it backfired. I also found out last night that it was red tagged that night cause someone called me in down the road, so the cops are keepin an eye on it which sucks. And yes I did leave my plugs in when put the headers on, so I should probably get new ones then huh? Thanks I was just makin sure it wasn't anything serious

theres no problem leving the plugs in when you install headers!! you just have to be carefull not to hit one of them when your installing them because you might crack one! just make sure that the plugs arent craked!! if one or more is, then most likely thats your problem!! when my car backfired it was because i stept on the gas not when i let off of it!! So i was running rich!!! new plugs and a tune clreard everything up for me!!
