What to Expect from a Cam?
I am thinking of installing a new cam (something in the 224/224 range) and was wondering what I can expect in terms of power increase and "fun factor"?

The increase in the fun-factor is great. You will definetly enjoy it. And with a 224/224 you car will still have stock-like driving manners after a tune.
A couple good sponsors to look at that sell cams are Thunder Racing and Texas-speed.

its not "necessary" but a Ls2 chain is only like $35, so must people choose to do it. Same thing with the oil pump, a ported LS6 is only like $120, but people mainly replace it just because they have everything else apart, and dont want to do the same job twice if the stocker fails.

The TR224/224 is an outstanding cam, middle of the road, easy to tune, proven, etc. Normally I would recommend it b/c I am not a fan of giant cams.
However, since you have 4.10 gears, I would actually go a little bigger in this case. You can get into the 230s duration and still not be doggish down low. Pretty much impossible to be a dog out of the hole with 4.10 gears. A larger cam might actually help traction a little, and of course bigger is better for top end power.
Just my .02 and food for thought.

Mods in sig.
I am very happy with the cam I'm running right now. I'm actually still on the stock tune and have no driveability issues at all and my car is DD. Although a tune is very good idea (and pretty much necessary) and that is going to be my next mod before anything else.
I agree with will82 in some points. This particular cam pulls like a train up top, but doesn't have much low-end grunt so I don't sit there and roast my tires on launch.

Go to gen 3 internal engine and post a thread asking whether to go 224/224 or bigger with the 4.10 gears. You'll get more responses and more info too.
