Looking to buy FIRST Vette...Advice please on price of this ride
As the title says, I am in the market for my first Vette. I would LOVE to have a new 2007 ZO6, but hey...who wouldn't.
Anyway, I just wanted some general advice from those current owners, as I know many of you have owned several Vette's. I know prices are subjective and what some would pay for a car, another wouldn't, I am just hoping to get a general opinion here.
Here are the details:
2001 CORVETTE Z06 WITH 610 HORSEPOWER AND 580 FOOT LBS. OF TORQUE, TO THE GROUND. DYNO SHEETS AND RECEIPTS GO WITH CAR. SPEEDWAY WHITE WITH THE RARE INTERIOR COLOR COMBINATION OF MODIFIED RED. $18K PUT INTO WITH UPGRADES!
-STROKED LS2 SLP ALUMINIUM LOW COMPRESSION 402 W/MACHINED HEADS
-PROCHARGER STAGE 2 D1SC W/8 LBS. OF BOOST, 4.5" PULLEY AND 60LB. INJECTORS
-160 DEGREE THERMOSTAT
-RACETRONIX HIGH PERFORMANCE FUEL PUMP
-SPEC STAGE 3 CLUTCH AND RESURFACED FLYWHEEL
-MTI X1 CAM
-RANDOM TECH. HIGH FLOW CATS, BBK SHORTY HEADERS AND SLP LOUDMOUTH EXHAUST
-B&M SHORT THROW SHIFTER
-OPTIMA RED TOP BATTERY
-CCW HIGH POLISH WHEELS. 275X30X19 UP FRONT AND 305X30X19 ON THE REAR
-DRILLED AND SLOTTED BRAKE ROTORS
-CARBON FIBER BRAKE DUCTS
-MIRRORED TRUNK LINER AND EXHAUST PLATE
CAR HAS 21,507 MILES ON THE BODY, BUT NEW MOTOR WHICH WAS PUT IN BRAND NEW HAS 1,095 MILES ON IT. ALL MOTOR WORK WAS DONE BY CAROLINA PERFORMANCE RACING IN CHARLOTTE NORTH CAROLINA. HAS ALL STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THAT YEAR, POWER EVERYTHING! CAR EXTREMELY FAST WITH CAPABILILTY OF DOING OVER 700 HORSEPOWER WITH CHANGING BOOST AND PULLEY SIZE!
$42,000 OBO
This is word for word from the AD!! I know I could buy a Vette cheaper and mod it, but since this one is modded and I really can't do any of the work myself, I thought I would get opinions.
Easy on me guys.....new to the Vette shopping scene.
Thanks

That's kind of high b/c mods don't add value, but in your case I guess they do. It would cost around 18k for a forged ls2/blower build since you can't do the work. The wheels would be around 3k. So basically you'd have to find a 20,000 mile z06 for only 20k even just to be able to match 41k for the car + build, so I'd say go for it if you can afford to now and that's the setup you want.
My only advice would be to replace the BBK headers. They are coated mild steel tubing. If you want to stay with shorties, the B&B are stainless steel. Otherwise most longtubes (lg, kooks, stainless works, american racing, dynomaxx) are stainless steel.
Also, I do't see anything about the rear-end being beefed up. A hardened left output shaft would be good insurance.

I don't think it's a horrible price.
The car with 20k miles 100% stock is easily worth $30-35k, especially to the right person (someone looking for speedway white) and looking at the mod list I don't think his $18k claim is overshooting it at all.
$42k is fair, and if he holds out he'll probably sell it for that. If I were looking at buying it... I'd shoot him a $38-40k offer and see where it goes from there.

The car is over priced. It is a very nice car but not worth what they are asking for it. Retail on a stock 01 Z06 in good condition is $25K - $29K depending on the car. The color white makes no difference it is what it is. The reason that you only see white offered in the Z06 for one year is that the color was not popular enough to keep offering it in that model. The mods are nice but nobody loves somebody elses hot rod..that is the reason you see so many parts being sold in the 4 sale section..If the car is "all there" I'd offer in the low to mid 30s for it. Good luck sir.

So you have to think, if i finance a car that is only worth 27k (and thats private party, wholesale would be alot worse of course) for 42k, and it gets totalled was it a smart choice? Mods do not add value..

You want to buy this car because it's already modded... because you don't want to do the work yourself.....
Think about it.... that car (or any high hp forced induction car) is going to need to have wrenches turned on it.
You may not turn wrenches for the 1st year, but you'll sure as hell have to sooner or later.
I'd pass on that car and finance a car that's all motor (stroker, heads/cam) you'll have less hassle compared to forced induction.... trust me, I've been there, done that.
Nice car though, slightly overpriced on the market, but it's underpriced in reality.

Thanks for all the input guys. From the sounds of it, the majority vote says I need to just keep looking. I guess since I am not in any type of hurry to buy, then it is not a big deal.
I would LOVE, to learn how to work on engines and things myself. But it would take someone with patiences who likes to work on engines, and that lives close to me. So I guess that option is out.....
Thanks guys.

I am going to disagree with everyone here. I think the $42K is well worth it. The car has a 402 stroker in it and it has the Procharger D1. Here is a price break down:
1) 2001 ZO6 : $25K - $29K : from the looks of it I would say to the $29K side
2) 402 LS2 Stroker : $10K
3) Procharger D1 : $6K
4) CCW Wheels and Tires : $4K
5) other parts : $2K
Just in parts that is $41K. Installing and tuning everything is easy another $3K to $4K. If you could get the person down to $39K to $40K, I woudl say that is a good deal.

TByrne D1 Package -- $6929.99
From the CCW website -- 505A From $2595 per set ( add tires and you are easily at $4K )

I will sell you my 07 automatic with 2k miles on it for that price and go buy an 08. And I bet as soon as Yank or PI has a converter available, and with a couple bolt ons, it will et almost the same at that one.
