Default need to rebiuld t56 on budget & strong

ok so i just picked up a t56, it's out of of a trans am i think, any way the guy said it all works fine except 5th and 6th grind kanda bad. its gonna be going up to a 650+ horse 383 (in time) and in a car that wieghs 2000 pounds so i know that wieght plays a difference in strenght needs compared to a trans am or something. so what are my optins? a complete rebuild kit? the budget is kinda tight so that plays a factor like always, ideally keep it like $800

steel shift forks, bronze fork pads, carbon blocker rings and a new bearing kit will make it pretty solid. those mods should net you around $800 installing them yourself

You really dont know what you have till you have it apart anyway. If it needs speed gears or collars it's gonna drive the price up fast.

What year is the tranny? Not sure but I think pre 2000 had the old second gear in it that comes apart pretty easy. I didn't know this when I rebuilt mine and took second gear apart on the first hard shift. It's about $130 bucks from sixspeedsinc...
