Default "Fuel Pump Access" panel: Pics inside...

Well, I am installing a Racetronix fuel pump kit in my car and decide to go the old "access hole" route (cut a hole above the tank).

I decided (even though no one will ever see it) to try to make it a little factory so I painted the panel I am covering the whole with.

Went down to the local mall and had a vinyl guy make me some "FUEL PUMP ACCESS" stickers that I placed on the (cleaned) bare metal:

Then I sprayed the whole thing in black:

Then removed the stickers and cleared coated it (these pics suck, it actually looks better and worse, in different ways, in person):

It is definetly not perfect (I forgot to clean the metal with rubbing alcohol AFTER I polished the area so the stickers didn't stick as well as I thought and I had some paint bleed) but it's going UNDER the carpet so it's good enough for me

Just figured it would be a little more factory looking if I ever sold the car and someone else found it

>>>NO NEED TO QUOTE PICS!!!<<<

Hahah, I love the fact that when a mechanic goes to change the next owners pump he's going to laugh hysterically.

A "mechanic" would either go through the bottom and never see it or go through the top and be grateful so

More than likely he'd go through the bottom and then get pissed off after he seen the door, lol

Id be pissed like a ************ if that happened to me. But, if I saw it happen to someone else I would laugh my nuts off.

All I can picture is a guy going to change the pump and lifts the carpet to start measuring his door hes about to cut, then he sees that access door and out comes the Cartman style "sweeet".

More like OCD... You don't know how tempted I am to re-do it because of a little bit of bleed through. I have to keep telling myself no one will ever see it to stop me from spending another $20 ($15 for stickers, $5 for paint) on something as dumb as this

It would cost me more than $20 if I sold this one because I would have to buy another $10 piece of steel as well...

Most guys screw it down with gobs of silicon under it... I've seen another guy put hinges and a latch on it.

I personally put 3M tape all around the edge and secure it that way. Looks cleaner, seals better and no chance of screws poking down towards the tank

Interesting. I plan on doing a access panel on my Bronco for the transfer case, make it easier (once installed) to get to the grease plug.
